Remnant of Boston’s Brutal Winter Threatens to Outlast Summer (snow piles still frozen)

BOSTON Now that it is July, it is easy to think of Bostons record snowfall last winter as a bad dream.
These days, you can walk outside without dressing in multiple layers. You can see your car when you stand next to it. Even the subway is running (more or less).
But if you want a reality check, come to the Seaport district, where you will find an astonishing residual artifact from the glory days of February: a 12-foot-high frozen mound, a remnant of the record 110.6 inches of snow that accumulated in Boston over the winter.
Yes, some of that snow is still here. No, it has not all melted yet. Yes, it is July.

The snow is all melted, unless it’s in the shade and insulated. I’m north of boston, we have 12, 15, 20 foot piles of snow every year (parking lots), and all of ‘em are melted - have been for a month.

My bet: it won’t completely melt before the next slow flies in October.

I’m with you Libloather, it’s 20 feet of garbage, neighbors next door had a 15 foot high by 6 foot wide snowbank in front of their house and it’s been gone for months.

It was 75 feet high and filled with garbage, which can act as an insulator. Also, as more of it melts, the garbage stays so more of the pile is insulating junk.
It is going to be there a while.

That was just a guess on the "conservative" side. We had snow on the flat in early April, in the shade maybe another week or two (both of those referring to snow not piled in those 15-20 foot hills). It's probably been more than a month that those were gone, maybe just as long as two months.

How many dead winos do you think we’d find if we tore down that pile?

That makes sense. 75 feet high to begin with, and insulated. I'll guess it's in the shade, too.
Ice houses of the old days, harvest ice in the winter, pack it in sawdust, and you have ice all year.

Finally! A new habitat for the polar bears.
Just think of them as our glaciers.

It’s Moscow on the Boston Harbor so who cares? Only if they find a pile of dead reds under all the snow will I raise my eyebrows in interest.
Smart conservatives prepared for global freezing, not global BS warming.
Calling Al Gore. Your shovel is awaiting your fat butt in Seaport/Boston.
