BARSTOW, Calif. (AP) A box van packed with fireworks exploded and burned to the ground on a Southern California freeway Thursday, clogging the main road between Los Angeles and Las Vegas at the beginning of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The Chevrolet van caught fire shortly before 1:30 p.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 15 near the Nevada border, briefly closing southbound lanes for nearly an hour and backing up traffic several miles into Nevada, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ryan Camara. No one was injured.

Some people should not play with anything.
,others can have fun playing with high explosives.
I know what group I fit into you know what group you fit into.
WHAT HAPPEN?
And the driver apparently did, once the van caught fire.
Thems the rules.
I live on the coast in California and I have to sometimes go to a low-income area packed with illegals:
They have been throwing fireworks since the 28th OF LAST MONTH..!!
At first it was funny, but it just becomes more and more and more.
I’m supposed to believe they’re excited about US Independence from England?
It’s simply an excuse for noisy chaos.
This is happening more and more.
In Texas they shoot guns.
ISIS is crazy if the try a plot this weekend.
Millions of Mexicans will drop them in the dirt.
Can’t see “Barstow” without saying this:
“We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold....” (Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)
In 1980 I broke down on I-40 about 60 miles east of Barstow late one August afternoon. Hotter than blazes. One of us hitched a ride to needles to arrange a tow and the other guy and me pushed the truck four miles to an overpass for shade.
That place is desolate.
Salton sea is another blazer, we cooked eggs on a plate with sausage in the sun out there. (no fire)
Very nice, Joe.... happy 4th. !
The wife and I stayed in Barstow one night on our way from the Sierras to Arizona. On our way back from Victorville where we had gone to get some camera equipment, we took a road (old Route 66) and came into Barstow from the southwest. It looked like an atomic bomb had hit the place there were so many junky looking, half destroyed houses.
Hang in there Riley. I quit 17 years ago as a 2 pack a day smoker for 50 years. If I can do it you sure can. I still like the smell of smoke and sometimes dream of buying butts but no way in Hell would I ever again light up.
You mean this “Labrador” pot has been through a dog, man?
Worked for SAIC in San Diego for a few years. Had a big contract at Ft Irwin north of Barstow. Spent a week at a time up there staying in a Barstow motel at night. Rough town. Got a huge kick out of listening to the police on a scanner. The bikers there were always up for entertainment, dragging fast food guys through the drive up window, etc.
This calls to mind the great fireworks war between the phi beta kappas and valedictorians from SEC schools.

It’s freaking ruthless, isn’t it?
Be nice, I grew up on the west side of Barstow.
