The only biker to sue in connection with a mass arrest following a deadly shootout at a Texas restaurant argued in a petition filed Wednesday that he was unfairly slapped with a gag order after publicly criticizing how the investigation has been handled.
Matthew Clendennen, one of 177 people arrested after the May 17 shootout in Waco in which nine people were killed, said the order in the state's criminal case against him is unconstitutional and outside the court's jurisdiction because he has not been indicted. The order prevents attorneys, witnesses and law enforcement officers involved in the criminal case from discussing it with the media.

McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna, among those named in Clendennen's federal civil rights suit, requested the gag order Tuesday during a hearing in Clendennen's criminal case. District court judge Matt Johnson, Reyna's former law partner, granted the order, saying he was acting to prevent pretrial publicity from influencing potential jurors.
Johnson and Reyna's onetime partnership extends back until at least 2001, when Johnson joined the Reyna & Reyna law firm, which was owned by Reyna's father, former McLennan County district attorney and state appeals court judge Felipe Reyna.

According to state campaign records, Reyna and Reed each donated $1,000 to Johnson's 2006 campaign, the maximum each was allowed to contribute under state law governing judicial campaigns.

FR consensus view : scumbag organized crime supporting biker trash deserves no rights.
Wait for it.

Something here smells just the tiniest bit like judicial misconduct — or legal incest, depending how you look at it.
Clendennan is the same guy who said he wasn’t aware of any bad blood between the Cossacks and Banditos. Just trying to save his own ass.
I would say the FR consensus view is the opposite. The bikers have a very strong following around these parts.
Starting to look like the Waco PD are being used as tools by an ambitious DA.
The bikers Constitution and Due Process of Law have a very strong following around these parts.
Have attest for you to show the validity of your wishful assumption.
Wish in one hand and poop in the other, see which fills up first.

It seems to me that the greater concern is the apparent abuse of the law employed against 177 people based on their choice of clothing.
Wow, Donny, you are correct for once. Happy to see you finally waking up to that fact.
Birds of a feather....... flock together.
That wasn’t what I said, so it wasn’t what I meant. The support for bikers goes way beyond the Constitution and due process on a lot of these threads.
There are something like 5 posters that post as fast as they can to support the way “justice” is being served in Waco.
Imo - a vocal minority, not a consensus.
The support for the police action in Waco is in opposition to due process and the Constitution.
You are surprised that is resisted?
“The bikers have a very strong following around these parts.”
This is why I despair for our country, the cartoon level understanding.
No one is “following” the bikers.
We are “following” the Constitution and we are concerned about the abuses of law enforcement.
It’s disturbing that folks can abandon principle and objectivity depending on which group of Americans are involved.
And it’s especially distressing to see how otherwise good people don’t see how, on a daily basis, they are cheer leading for their own destruction.
Do not mistake. Conservatives are getting duped and manipulated by the smarter leftists who promote hatred and division as a cover for a deeper agenda.
You think it is all Good Guys Law Enforcement versus Bad Guys Bikers?
Then you blind conservatives are smugly and clue-lessly unprepared for the knock on your door, like the “knock” on the door of Scott Walker’s allies.
It remains unclear whose bullets struck the nine who died; the results of autopsies and ballistic analyses have not been made public.
Sounds more and more like a cover-up. After all, the high velocity small bore rounds used by the LEOS make very different wounds than bullets fired from the pistols carried by some of the bikers.
well said
That, My FRiend is because it is. Until they are doctored to clear the police, you will not see either a ballistics report, nor the Coroner's Report [Autopsy report]
You need to repeat that a few dozen times to get people to understand the real argument here. When they violate one group’s rights...who is next? Maybe Christian businesses?
Welcome to the conversation with that great summary of what is, again, at stake. If we can get more FReepers so articulately framing the issues as you have, the Trolls will assume their rightful place as mere annoying static.
