If you go to any of those places I’m told it will be a big lifestyle change.

I was watching a Dateline show about a guy who killed his girlfriend in Panama. They lived on the beach and it wasn’t anything special. Right behind them was a swamp. And where there wasn’t a swamp there was a ghetto.

I’ve considered two of the places you mentioned. The best advice I’ve gotten is to go for a few months then decide if you want to stay.

I didn’t say I was thinking about it...I just mentioned where a lot of people are.

Having said that, I am thinking about it. ...and way ahead of you dude.......way ahead of everything you say. Extensive research. Many interviews with people living there....will be 1-3 month stays in several places to see.

Look for this to explode!

That is the best advise for those thinking of retiring overseas or even to another state/region of the USA - make an exploratory trip first to the place/country you are seriously considering moving to make sure you will be happy and can enjoy yourself. Don’t want to pack everything and spend big $$$ to move to someplace you’ve only seen on TV or the Internet only to be miserable and head back home with your tail between your legs and even more lighter in the wallet.

Taking a few weeks or a month’s no commitment “dry run” living someplace else - not going as a tourist per se, but as an expat living there - to see if it would be for you or not is a lot cheaper in the long run both financially and emotionally.

That is good advice regardless where someone is thinking about moving, but as far as Panama goes, check deeper. Look into Boquete, or for that matter, the Trump Ocean Club (as in Donald Trump) in Panama City.
