My roots are in the South and are pre-Revolutionary, a Southerner and proudly so. I love many things about my heritage, but I am ashamed of some of it. My ancestors fought the English and the Yankee; Some of them fought against some of my other ancestors, who were pro-Tory and pro-Yankee.
My view on the CSA battle flag is that it’s a loser’s flag. I am an American and proudly so. BUT, I am not pro-loser. If someone wants to fly a loser’s flag on US soil, they can start with British Union Jack and then go with the bastardized later version, the CSA Battle flag. That’s up to them. People should be free to fly a loser’s flag if they are proud of being a loser. That includes the Mexican flag and the Canadian flag. I would despise seeing a Nazi flag or the the Sickle and Hammer flag flying on USA soil, public or private. But I guess on private soil it is the owner’s prerogative.
Just don’t fly them on public properties, including schools, State Capitals and Veteran’s Cemeteries.
Remember the immortal words of a famous Army General and Southerner whose military ancestors fought for the CSA. I paraphrase USA Lt. General George Patton, who commented that Americans despise being losers. Americans demand victory of their military.
Confeddy flag lovers cannot truthfully deny the fact that it is a loser’s flag. Even Southern historians, lamenting the outcome of the War Between the States, called that war, “The Lost Cause.” That is only one reason I am not proud of the Confeddy Battle flag, but it is reason enough.
Ho Chi Minh agrees with you as it relates to the 50 star U.S. flag.
