The marriage certificates around 1850s were certified by ministers. In the 1850's you didn't have income tax, HIPPA, Social Security, and the myriad of other agencies and organizations that need proof you're married.

Could Mississippi change it back to that? And if it can, will the government force churches to marry gay guys? It might anyway, of course, with this scotus verdict.
