GETTYSBURG (Reuters) - The U.S. National Park Service began removing Confederate flag merchandise from its bookstores and gift shops on Thursday, joining a nationwide push by lawmakers and retailers to remove the emblem, long associated with the fight to preserve slavery.

Kathy Kupper, a national parks spokeswoman, said she doesn't know how many parks had previously sold Confederate flag merchandise, but about 70 of the organization's 407 parks are related to the American Civil War.

“We strive to tell the complete story of America,” National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said in a press release. “Any stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags have no place in park stores.”

Thanks. I did a search, and found Captain Arthur MacArthur, but basically all it said was that he planted the Union flag, nothing about the cannons. What I hadn’t known was that he was Douglas MacArthur’s father.

Absolutely not. We won states rights over that war. That is one of the positives of the Civil War. Even though the South got their butts handed to them, we did very well in states rights. We still have them today. Notice not all states have income taxes and some don’t have sales taxes and many other things.

True....luckily I live in a gated community that can’t have any section 8 or worse in our community. Plus we have an HOA (I know evil) but it keeps the rift raft down.
