If done with the agreement of both sides of the issue then it doesn't matter what the underlying reason for leaving is.

So to clarify, you're okay with the slavery as a reason to leave so long as you go through a pomp and circumstances ceremony to make it look pretty?

Since I'm not the one claiming that some states have no rights while other states do then I don't think I'm the one defending tyranny.

I would point out that this is a straw man argument, but I have a feeling you don't grasp such complex concepts.

I'll simplify for you. I made no remark even resembling that assertion.

If you want to describe taking steps to ensure a peaceful separation as "make it look pretty" then yeah.

I would point out that this is a straw man argument, but I have a feeling you don't grasp such complex concepts.

Oh I understand the concept. It's your arguments that I'm having problems finding sense in.

I'll simplify for you. I made no remark even resembling that assertion.

Sure you did. In your world it was perfectly fine for several states to walk out of the union and their resposnibility for obligations and with any federal property they could get their hands on and the remaining state had no rights or protections in the matter, but could only sit and take it. Now you claimed that wasn't what happened but you are completely wrong. The Southern states walked out. They claimed that they were out of the union and were forming their own country. They did not pay for their fair share of the debt before leaving, they left it to the other states. They did not pay for the forts and armories and courthouses and mints that they took, they just took them. And in your world it was their right to do all that. So then clearly you are also saying that the remaining states had no rights in the matter. All they could do was accept it. You are proven wrong by your own words.

But, you bleat, the Southern states offered to pay for Sumter. Even if that was a serious offer, it still does not change the fact that there was no offer to pay for obligations walked away from or other property seized. So we're back to the fact that you think the Southern state had the right to do that and the other states had no rights in the matter. In your Orwellian world you would have us believe that all states are equal, but some are more equal than others. So please don't deny that's been your position all along.
