The difference is, they were part of a democratic republic and had a vote on everything that happened. As long as the South was dominant in running the Federal government, they were happy.

It was only when they lost the election of 1860 that they rebelled. IMHO, the rebellion was foolish, for while their power would have gradually declined over time, slavery probably would have lasted at least another 40 years, although its expansion would have been halted.

In any case what matters today is whether we’ll let the democrats force a division which really seems to be what they’re trying to do.

You don’t know history. Seriously, read a book, and not a public school book. A real book on history.
