All four Confederate flags posted at Alabama state Capitol’s Confederate memorial were removed Wednesday morning following a quiet order from the state’s governor, Robert Bentley (R).
The Confederate battle flag was removed from the Capitol around 8:20 a.m. Gov. Bentley, who left the building a short while later, confirmed to inquiring reporters that he ordered the removal of the flags. AL.com reports:
Asked his reasons for taking it down and if it included what happened in Charleston last week, the governor said, “Yes, partially this is about that. This is the right thing to do. We are facing some major issues in this state regarding the budget and other matters that we need to deal with. This had the potential to become a major distraction as we go forward. I have taxes to raise, we have work to do. And it was my decision that the flag needed to come down.”
Bentley said before he made the final decision he checked to see if there were any impediments in the law or state policy that would prevent him from taking down the flag and found none, so he acted.
The other Civil War-era flags removed are the First National Confederate Flag (known as “Stars and Bars”), the Second National Confederate Flag (known as the “Stainless Banner”), and the Third National Confederate Flag.

Since I am a new resident of Alabama, and a former Texan, I think it is time for me to erect a couple new flag poles. Stars and Bars and the Lone Star. Maybe three and include the Alabama flag.

To give him credit, he has forgone gambling casinos for revenue and this state does have some fantastic parks and recreation facilities . I must also say this state is as friendly if not more so than Texas. These are simple family folks down here.
It’s not that homos have more fight. It’s that the media gives publicity to what homos say and the media ignore what conservatives say. If people hear about it then it has an effect.
I knew a guy in Oakland who made all of his curtains out of Confederate battle flags. At night his house loked like a tribute to Robert E Lee. Well, his liberal neighbors freaked out and petitioned the city to do something. They tried but failed. No one can tell you how to decorate the inside of your house.
You think I should care? Lot of the people stripping this stuff have jobs too.
This is your freedom and liberty. Your heritage flag. You want some brownie points because you punched a clock? Because the left isnt taking a break to wait for you.

I am new here to our state of Alabama, and from what I have seen, I think it is as great as the state I came from, Texas.Thumbs up to you, workers do not have time to protest, too busy taking care of family.
