The Supreme Court just said last week that the state has the right to control what is on the license plates.

That’s a political non-starter. Those who feel passionately about the issue (for the flag on the license plates) are a much smaller number that those who might feel alienated by the issue, although they are less passionate on it. What politician would want to align himself with such a calculus?

I have no dog in the Confederate flag fight. My ancestors didn't care much for the Confederacy or, for that matter, the union either. My wife has a few Confederate veterans in her background; I've been able to identify exactly one who worked as a Union Teamster in the Nevada cavalry.

That being said, if they remove the Confederate flag from the public arena because some people find it offensive, then they ought to do the same for Islamic symbols which even more people find offensive and has far more recent victims.
