Oh, please , enough with the delicate, oh-so-easily offended sensibilities. My husband's aunt is mentally retarded. She's a darling, and the family adores her, but no one clutches their pearls over that word.

Look it up. It means to delay or hold back in terms of development or progress, and it is an accurate description of people with that particular disability.

I am sick to death of all this jumping to be offended.
