As recently as eight months ago, at a gubernatorial debate, Haley answered her Democratic opponent’s call to take down the flag by countering that none of the CEOs who’ve brought their businesses to the state seemed to have any issue with it. That may be about to be change, though — protests to burn the flag on Saturday are already picking up steam on Facebook — so evidently Haley’s position will change with it. Last year 61 percent of South Carolinians supported keeping the flag in place on the state house grounds, but Haley’s term-limited as governor and is probably thinking more of her national potential at this point. She’s on the 2016 VP short list already; today’s announcement will remove a potential obstacle. It’s also a huge favor not just to Republicans in the state legislature, who’ll be grateful to have her acting as lightning rod on this, but to the GOP’s presidential field, which wants to make the Confederate flag issue go away ASAP. There’s a lot more upside than downside for her in taking this position.

No, we are most definitely NOT one nation. We are at least two distinct nations, sharing a common border and (more or less) a common language. We are liberals, conservatives and a spectrum of others and the splits between us are getting wider every day. Any possibility the divides might be bridged is negligible, giving way to eventual balkanization.
However much we might wish it to be otherwise we must - sooner or later - come to the conclusion that voting got us into this position but will never get us out of it. Already we see people leaving California faster than they can be replaced, even by illegal - er, undocumented immigrants. Where are they going? Texas, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana - to name a few.
We are gradually segregating ourselves from those we feel uncomfortable with. It is an entirely normal and natural response of all forms of life. That’s why fish gather in schools, to ensure the life of the species. It also explains why deer don’t intermingle with elk, why crabgrass chokes out everything else and takes over your lawn. Black families aren’t forced into small sections of the cities, they just prefer to live with people like themselves and since they only comprise 12-15% of the total population their ‘enclaves’ are generally smaller, with a smaller tax-base which gives way to less maintenance of the infrastructure.
What to do about all this? First we must embrace the fact that while the various states may be somewhat united the individual people are not. They differ politically, ideologically, physically and intellectually. The ‘melting pot’ that we’ve heard so much about actually has a lot of solid chunks floating in the soup.

Nikki I love Mitt Romney Haley is for herself and no one else.
It tickled me to death when she endorsed Romney over Newt and Newt ended up carrying the state. She did that for one reason and one reason only. She wanted job in his administration and figured he would get their nomination. Well she figured right, but she didn’t plan on him losing. She’ll a sell-out. My brother lives in Charleston and said she spends more time out of the state than she spends in it.
This issue has nothing to do with the flag. It is a direct assault by Statists against the First Amendment.

Anyone is free to leave the United States whenever they wish. What they are not free to do, is to take parts of the country with them. Nor can they pass ordinances which strip loyal Americans of their US citizenship, which is what secession is. And yes, I call that treason.

This is a State that has only a single Black in the House and yet went out on a limb and elected Nimrata Randhawa as Governor twice and Tim Scott to the Senate.
The legislature is not going to send the adulteress slut in the Governors Mansion a bill to take down the Stars and Bars just because some whack job Rhodesian murdered lots of good black folks.
Sort of like asking FEDGOV to end Affirmative Action, Food Stamps, and Welfare just because whack job blacks murder good white folks.
