Full disclosure: I work in the pharma industry, but I am also fully aware of past misdeeds by the industry, and I condemn them.

It may be the case that there are population subgroups that respond to certain drug therapies with erratic or antisocial behavior. As you might be aware, as a condition of approval, drugs are tested in a clinical setting among large patient samples. The conclusions drawn from these studies are based on the full, large sample.

What this means is that there may be unknown subgroups who may get a greater therapeutic benefit from the compound than the general population. There may also be subgroups that experience a negative effect. These subgroup responses are obscured by the “flaw of averages”.

The fact is that most people prescribed psychotropic meds get a therapeutic benefit from them. This said, I would not want myself or my family to take them for more than a short period. There is evidence of a relationship, for example, between chronic use of benzodiazepines (e.g., Valium) and increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). It may be that people with early stage AD respond well to benzos, but I would not take any chances with these drugs. I personally do not enjoy the feeling of intoxication, with the exception of the occasional few glasses of the ancient social lubricant, ethanol.

I don’t like the ending. I think it should have ended with, “in fact, I love you. I love all my fellow Americans, the ones I know, the ones I’ve befriended. I don’t choose my friends according to color. And I want prosperity and freedom for all.” Or something. Not ending with just “I don’t hate you.” It’s still so negative.

Going through pretzel contortions to “explain and excuse” the black shooter.

How do I know that? For those of you too young to remember, or you simply forgot because age has messed up your memory, I’m thinking of one Colin FERGUSON, black man, who hated whitey so much he went on a killing spree on the Long Island RR in 1993.

FERGUSON deliberately targeted the outbound rush hour train, knowing that it would be full of white professionals on their way home from work. He knew that no one on the train would have a weapon, (NY gun “free” zone doncha know) and that once the doors closed, his victims had no where to run or hide.

Once the doors did close, he methodically, systematically and deliberately went through the cars shooting white people only.

It was a hate crime plain and simple. He said so for one, he passed up black commuters for two.

When some brave souls finally tackled him during one of his many re-loads, he had piled up 25 victims, 6 of whom died.

I don’t remember any “outpouring” of sympathy and solidarity from the “black community” to the whites who suffered at the hands of that feeble minded racist, only lots of ink by black and white apologists insisting that we needed to “understand his black rage!”

So, here we have a white feeble minded racist who basically did the same thing, only the roles were reversed.

Wonder if some writer somewhere is going to pen an article on understanding the “white rage” of the millennials.

It looks like no matter what controls are implemented, when dealing with the complexities of the human, nothing is 100%. It sounds like that’s what you’re saying.

What can anyone say? Life itself is a risk. You either take reasonable precautions and live your life, or resign yourself to forever be a recluse.

It also sounds like as far as you know, those in the industry (FDA too?) are truly conscientious and understand what they do affects people’s quality of life, not to mention life itself. I think we all know people who wouldn’t be able to see or walk or think or even move had it not been for the efforts of the pharmaceutical industry.
