Now the Spanish government is planning to tax homes that produce their own energy through solar power and store some of it using batteries. El País reports: <> A draft decree prepared by the Industry, Energy and Tourism Ministry establishes a new fee to discourage the use of batteries or other storage systems by people who produce electricity, with solar or photovoltaic panels for instance, and who are connected to the national power grid.
This latest royal decree follows on the heels of an earlier one announced in 2013 that levied a tax solely on those who generate their own electricity. Once passed into law, intrepid small-time energy producers will be forced to pay a backup toll for the power from their solar panels, in addition to the access toll paid by everyone who consumes electricity from the conventional grid.
Whats worse, in order to figure out who is producing what level of energy (and, of course, how much to tax it), all solar panels would have to be hooked up to the grid. Energy producers who dont connect to the grid could face a fine of up to 30 million euros (yes, seven zeros!). As Forbes reports, the intention is clear: to scare taxpayers into connecting to the grid in order to be taxed:

And my kids can’t understand why I’m so pessimistic about the future.
Disconnect from the national power grid. Problem solved.
Government dares not allow its citizens to be independent; dependency is key to power.
“Disconnect from the national power grid. Problem solved.”
Next year’s royal decree will probably address that: capital punishment.
They can’t stand losing the $$$$$$$$$.
Bingo. That and money.
This is so typical, just like the move toward taxing miles on your car instead of gallons of fuel. They have been pushing higher mileage standards for decades, but it turns out fighting pollution takes a back seat to those tax dollars.
Not really. From the article:
Energy producers who dont connect to the grid could face a fine of up to 30 million euros (yes, seven zeros!)
Then it’s time for the people of Spain to rise up and kill their oppressors. And if they won’t rise up as free men then let them lie down as the slaves that they are.
OK Folks,
Your Cel/Smart Phone runs on [eek! Evil] batteries. They store some of that ‘energy’.
And your CAR! It generates [from FOSSIL Fuel, even] and stores in batteries.
CR&%, People, (insert) “NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts.”
Thus endeth the neutered rant.
I believe the wicked witch stole the sun in THE DAY THE WORLD FROZE.
Disconnect from the national power grid. Problem solved.
There are several news stories you can find where some areas in the U.S. won’t allow that. If you disconnect from the public utilities, they can condemn your property... even if you generate your own power.
The government already thinks it owns the air, so why not the sun too....
Gawd...
I’ve got a couple of panels laying in the back yard, not connected to anything.
RV owners beware.
How about those panels you plug into your cig lighter to keep your car battery charged?
And those ‘solar powered’ calculators, and yard lights, and cute little LED ‘dragon flies’ decorator lights?
GOT TO HOOK THEM ALL UP TO THE GRID [Where’s my Double Bold Font?]
"Problem" solved.
The government already thinks it owns the air, so why not the sun too....
Well, Dang.
They better tell that sun to cool off a bit - Global Warming, you know.
Well, they’ll tax ya when you’re trying to be so good
They’ll tax ya just a-like they said they would
They’ll tax ya when you’re tryin’ to go home
Then they’ll tax ya when you’re there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get taxed
Well, they’ll tax ya when you’re walkin’ ‘long the street
They’ll tax ya when you’re tryin’ to keep your seat
They’ll tax ya when you’re walkin’ on the floor
They’ll tax ya when you’re walkin’ to the door
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get taxed
They’ll tax ya when you’re at the breakfast table
They’ll tax ya when you are young and able
They’ll tax ya when you’re tryin’ to make a buck
They’ll tax ya and then they’ll say, “Good luck”
Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get taxed
Well, they’ll tax you and say that it’s the end
Then they’ll tax you and then they’ll come back again
They’ll tax you when you’re riding in your car
They’ll tax you when you’re playing your guitar
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get taxed
Well, they’ll tax you when you walk all alone
They’ll tax you when you are walking home
They’ll tax you and then say you are brave
They’ll tax you when you are set down in your grave
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get taxed
With apologies to Bob Dylan
No we can’t be left to be relaxed —
Everybody must be taxed!
