Very interesting life story. She is actually Norwegian. Her mother was a teenager who had a fling with a German soldier during the Nazi occupation of Norway. She became pregnant but he was ordered back to Germany. After the war Nazi collaborators and their bastard children were not treated at all well in Norway, so her grandmother took her to Sweden to raise her in peace. Her mother stayed behind in Norway, intending to earn money and eventually join them there, but she became ill and died of some form of kidney disease in her early 20's.

When ABBA became a phenomenon, a German magazine tracked down her father living in Germany and re-united them. They did maintain a relationship up until he passed away.
