The thing they did was to fire the shots.

IOW, the gun battle was 100% “Lawmen” shooting at civilians.

I don't disagree and what you're saying really speaks to is the absolute necessity to have some control over who is attending these regional meetings... which is why the people who organized the meeting and have gone on the record saying the Cossacks were not invited, are believable.

Yes, it is believable, but I think your emphasis is wrong - Had a few folks stumbled in 'uninvited', that's a whole nuther thing from coming in 50-100 strong, and loaded for bear.

These same people are statewide representatives on the US Defenders Legislative Task Force... which adds to their credibility.

US Defenders are cheek to jowl with CoC's everywhere. US Defenders come out of the CoC's - CoCs are a political organization, and US Defenders are it's political action arm. That's why I keep telling you that they are much like the TEA Party.

According to one of the organizers...the CoC had 'reserved' a large portion of the restaurant, including the patio area, for their meeting. This would not be an uncommon occurance for large group events and fits in with your earlier point about logistics. The parking lot of course is a different story and that is where the trouble between the two groups supposedly began.

Sure, but it still isn't a closed venue. Or at least it doesn't look like one to me.

My understanding is that there are a dozen CoC regions in Texas and its been said that it's unusual for folks from one CoC region to attend meetings in another region. How accurate do you think that statement is?

I dunno that my opinion applies. Here, things are governed more by geography than by borders - On the west side of the Rockies in MT, it is not unusual to have to take a putt over to where the action is... most things happen around here in pretty limited places: Here in the Flathead, where I live, south to Missoula, or west to CdA/Sandpoint ID, Spokane WA, or maybe Boise ID. Otherwise, it's over the hump to Billings, Butte/Bozeman, or Great Falls, and that's about it. And I am not talking only about MCs either... that's the same for just about anything. If it ain't in the valley here, chances are it's at least 2 hrs away, and 4 to 6 hrs isn't unlikely...

Texas is pretty stretched out too, and I would think that a meet would draw from pretty far afield... In fact one of the reasons given for meeting in Waco was that folks way out there were whining because it was always in Austin. It was always the outliers who had to travel... But that's me talking with my preconditioned sensibilities. Desert conditions and pop centers may be entirely different from what I know.
