“By the way Social Security I paid into, dont make it sound like its a liberal given free bee.”

This is one of the most infuriating Boomer myths that are spouted by conservatives.

You didn’t pay in. You let your payments be distributed immediately to your parents, and you want your kids to pay for that choice.

Unless you are in the top five percent of income earners, or die young, you will get back more from social security than you ever paid into it. It is a free bee.

Thanks for that blatant misrepresentation.

Tell ya what: refund the money I've paid into FICA over the past 40 years, and I'll take care of myself and my family.

Over the past ten years alone, the amount confiscated from my employers and me is nearly $150,000, with no compounding.

you will get back more from social security than you ever paid into it.

Duh.

With any retirement-savings plan; you're supposed to get back more than you paid in. It's simple arithmetic.

You let your payments be distributed immediately to your parents...

We "Let" that happen? Like we had a choice? As if it was our idea? Are you nuts?

Apparently you are unaware that Social Security wasn't sold to us as the Ponzi scheme that it really is. We were told that our "contributions" were to earn interest, like any retirement fund. We know now that there was no "trust fund" earning interest. So that was a lie. But it wasn't our lie. We were the ones who were lied to.

For most of us Middle-Class Boomers, our return-on-investment from Social Security is less than 2%. Less than what Passbook-Savings-Account interest averaged over the past 50 years.

It isn't a freebie. It's a scam. And the scam is on those of us who paid into it for decades; and who now receive somewhere between one-half and one-fourth of what we would be receiving if our money had gone into average interest-bearing retirement accounts.

But don't worry; when you reach retirement age, I'm sure your grandchildren's generation will be more than happy to pay for your retirement.

not receiving SS yet, so I can say this fairly: we HAVE been paying....its not our fault that its a Ponzi scheme...its not our fault that every stinker with a sore knee or some subjective disease is getting mega bucks from SSD....and its not our fault that the govt has siphoned so much of what was supposed to be a good bet....

believe me, we PAID....

I'm very keen to what our younger people are facing...that's why I vote conservatively and as frugally minded as I can....its why I send money to my adult kids and why I want to leave some kind of legacy to my children.
