That's exactly how I remember my FDR Democrat (liberal) friends viewed black Americans as the civil rights movement began in the 1950s.
We whites had to be very careful, accommodating, and understanding as we guide black Americans through this long-overdue change.
Meanwhile we were already in an integrated state with blacks holding jobs and attending school along with whites. However I was aware that segregation existed elsewhere.

If legally, it is declared that black is not a race, we should revolt, and on the next census, every white person declare themselves to be black.
It’s all about the $$$ that’s all the modern civil rights movement cares about.
