Rachel Dolezal Postpones Meeting to Discuss Her Race
ABC News ^ | June 14, 2015 | ABC News

Rachel Dolezal, the president of Spokane, Washington's NAACP chapter, has postponed Monday's monthly NAACP membership meeting, where she had planned to make a statement regarding the "questions and assumptions swirling in national and global news about my family, my race, my credibility, and the NAACP."

Dolezal said in an emailed statement today: "Due to the need to continue discussion with regional and national NAACP leaders, tomorrow's meeting is postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time."

"There are many layers to this situation," Dolezal said in her original statement, sent via email Friday night. "There are questions and assumptions swirling in national and global news about my family, my race, my credibility, and the NAACP. I have discussed the situation, including personal matters, with the Executive Committee. I support their decision to wait until Monday to make a statement. The Executive team asked that I also release my response statement at the same time, which will be during the 7-9 pm monthly membership meeting."

For years, Dolezal, 37, has identified herself publicly as African American. When applying for a spot on Spokane's Police Ombudsman Commission -- of which she is now chairwoman -- Dolezal identified herself as white, black and American Indian, ABC affiliate KXLY-TV in Spokane reported.

Apparently she’d been doing this act for years, how come her parents suddenly care? This whole thing is hilarious.

She is a fraud, and the NAACP would be perpetuating a fraud by allowing a white person to lead a black organization...

The implications of letting a White person misrepresent themselves as Black is likely slowly starting to dawn on them. If this precedent stands, before you know it White-Black people will start competing for all the set-asides. Can’t have that.

Apparently, sex is negotiable, but race is not (even though the opposite is more easily accomplished). After all, Michael Jackson almost became White.

I'm glad she postponed; that gives me time for a movie marathon:

Soul Man (1986): To achieve his dream of attending Harvard, a pampered teen poses as a young black man to receive a full scholarship.

Silver Streak (1976): On a long-distance train trip, a man finds romance but also finds himself in danger of being killed, or at least pushed off the train. Gene Wilder (white) disguises himself as black to escape with Richard Pryor.

The Jazz Singer (1927): The son of a Jewish Cantor must defy the traditions of his religious father in order to pursue his dream of becoming a jazz singer.

Blazing Saddles (1974): To ruin a western town, a corrupt political boss appoints a black sheriff, who promptly becomes his most formidable adversary. Mel Brooks (white) plays an Indian (of course, back when they were Indians and not "Native Americans", most were played by whites).

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961): A young New York socialite becomes interested in a young man who has moved into her apartment building. Mickey Rooney (white) plays Mr. Yunioshi (Japanese).

Othello (1965): A general's marriage is destroyed when a vengeful lieutenant convinces him that his new wife has been unfaithful. Laurence Olivier (white) plays Othello in blackface.

A Mighty Heart (2007): Mariane Pearl embarks on a frantic search to locate her journalist husband, Daniel, when he goes missing in Pakistan. Angelina Jolie (white) plays a mixed race Cuban-black woman, using pretty much the same tricks as our NAACP leader. I wonder if this movie inspired her to become black or at least taught her how.

Gandhi (1982): The life of the lawyer who became the famed leader of the Indian revolts against the British rule through his philosophy of nonviolent protest. It's a hit so people forget, but Ben Kingsley (white) played Gandhi (Indian).

Any other good transracial movies?

She probably has to undergo several more “dark tanning” sessions to make herself look “more black” before she can hold a press conference. :-)

The other day I read an article about “the couple who claim to be Rachel’s parents”. They had her birth certificate and photos from her childhood, I think they have proven that they are her parents.
