The abbreviations are flying fast and furious, and it can be hard to keep up. Heres a guide to where were at.
The House just had two key votes. First, there was a vote on Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), a big old subsidy program for unions. Unions love it, but Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) 18% pulled support for it as a ploy.
So after TAA (union subsidy) failed, the House voted on Trade Promotion Authority (TPA, more commonly known as Fast Track). Without TAA (union subsidy) included, most Republicans were on board, and most Democrats were opposed. Since Republican have the majority, TPA (Fast Track) succeeded.
However, TPA (Fast Track) must also be passed by the Senate in order to take effect. It seems likely that Senate Democrats will oppose TPA (Fast Track) because the TAA (union subsidy) package was not included. Without enough Democrat votes, TPA (Fast Track) will not be able to get an up or down vote.
Without TPA (Fast Track), the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP, Trade Deal) negotiations will be stalled, because other countries understand the US political system enough to know that US Senators are an ornery bunch. Other countries dont want to make a final commitment unless they know that commitment will get an up or down vote in the Senate, and that wont happen without TPA (fast track).
So in the end, the Democrats are abandoning giving the President TPA (fast track), denying him a signature win in the form of concluding TPP (trade deal), all because its more important to them to get TAA (union subsidy).
Clear as mud, right?
Updated: Its been pointed out to me that it is possible that TAA (union subsidy) will get added to TPA (fast track) in a conference committee bill. If Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) N/A% and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 67% let that happen, then thatll snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Cruz has not supported Obamatrade. TPA and TPP are entirely different.
TPP will likely not even come up for vote until late 2016, even if TPA passes now. That is due to the restrictions that must be met by TPA.
We don’t know what will be in the final draft of TPP, but it will be published for the public 60 days before being voted on. Given the distrust everyone has of Obama, including Cruz, it will be the most scrutinized trade bill in history.
The secrecy thing should be illegal.
I would end massive bills, too. Each bill should be limited to one topic and few pages.
You obviously haven’t read TPA and if you did, you’d realize that it was around for decades.
Now, who do you support?
You lost the argument when you said, Cruz is working with Obama. nice try though.
BTW, were the Dems working with Bush sr in 1991 when TPA was done originally?
Also, who do you support if not Cruz? (you won’t answer, I know, but it is a good question).
Not your Transnational Progressive sell-out, that’s for sure.
LOL...are you stuck on one talking point? Seriously, man, come up with something more original if you are going to respond.
BTW, who do you support?
Your ignorant and vague responses are just boring now. It has been explained to you at a first grade level that whether somebody has chosen a candidate yet or not does not take away from the fact that Cruz betrayed us.
Answer the questions or just prove once and for all that you can’t:
1. We all agree that Obama is more destructive than any President before, so why trust him or give him more powers?
2. TPA takes away the Senates right to a 60-vote cloture vote. Why give that to Obama?
3. TPA takes away the right to filibuster from any member of Congress. Why give that to Obama?
4. TPA takes away the right to offer amendments from any member of the House or Senate. Why give that to the most destructive and lawless President we have ever known?
5. TPA gives Obama the authority to negotiate in secret and condones his COMPLETELY LAWLESS behavior in threatening anybody who has read TPP (which is almost done by the way).
So my questions is this? How could anyone possibly rationalize giving so much power to a horrible President while weakening the Congress at the same time.
It defies all logic. It does not make sense.
Some of you think Obama wont be able to find a total of 50 Demorats and RINOs to force a horrible world changing agreement on us? You are crazy.
Whether you liked them or not, Presidents before werent absolute haters of our actual country. Obama is, so doing this is completely idiotic.
All three have more Conservatism in each of their little pinky fingers than a politician voting for ObamaTrade, like Boehner, McConnell, and Cruz.
So don't be lazy and open up a new tab in your browser and READ FACTS - like the newest breaking news that ObamaTrade has massive tax increases against small business owners.
You mean, the same Jeff Sessions who supported, via his vote AGAINST TPA, kick backs for unions? Or, the Jeff Sessions who agreed with Fast Track and Free Trade (along with back door Amnesty) when he supported Cafta?
West is great, but he isn’t running. Get over the Palin thing. Mama Grizzly is great, but she isn’t running either. I have a hunch, she will support the man that you are bashing.
LOL...now, is that TPA or TPP?
Now worries, TNMOUTH, I’ll just ping you when Breitbart or WikiLeaks breaks another article exposing the evil strategies of crony capitalism in ObamaTrade that the Transnational Progressive RINOS have sown in with their golden thread stolen from the taxpayer treasury.
So, should we ping you for the constant stream of op-eds and articles in places like CATO adn the WSJ that support Cruz?
Interesting that you bring up the same tried and tired names...but, the problem...you only have 2 of them. As time goes on, we are proving more and more articles that support TPA.
I know, I know, in your opinion, all of these want to commit treason....
Massive “Omnibus” bills are where they hide the things that steal our money and our freedom.
LOL...wasn’t Drudge maligned on here not so long ago for his support of the Establishment? I don’t remember the issue, but it was a big deal.
