Trade promotion authority formerly known as fast track: Building common ground on trade demands more than a name change Shapiro, Hal; Brainard, Lael (2003)
The real power of fast track (TPA) is the underlying political compact between Congress and the President rather than its statutory guarantees, which are technically quite fragile.

The good news is that Cruz has them exactly where he wants them. He has the leverage to force them to make public the details of TPP by threatening to withhold his vote for TPA. Oh wait, that ship has sailed. He sold out and has nothing. What a big fat nothingburger he turned out to be. They all are.

Maybe its time to give Jindal a second look.

That’s it! Cruz has lost my support! He has sold out! He is no longer one of us. He is finished. I used to give him money, but no more. Can I get a refund?! He is losing support. 95% of supporters are leaving him...just look at FB.

He is treasonous. He is evil. He has become a RINO. Did you know his wife worked for Goldmann?

There, posted this for the trolls.

I like Ted. But maybe he and others who support this bill could have withheld
their support UNTIL it was made public. Not before.

FACT SHEET: Transparency and the Trans-Pacific Partnership

Transparency is a two-way street, and increasing the amount of information flowing from stakeholders to the government does not lessen the government's obligation to provide information about its activities and proposals to the public. That said, the USTR's efforts to help stakeholders engage with negotiators and make their case before the negotiating countries is promising.”
Jodie Griffin, Public Knowledge Policy Blog

It’s declassified and made public once it’s agreed to. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)

Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

Outlines of TPP
As one would imagine it's full of boilerplate.

Does TPA give the President more authority?

More than what? To say that TPA does not give Obama more authority is misleading at best.

The key question is whether passing TPA gives Obama more authority than not passing TPA. The answer to that question is that passing TPA give Obama more authority than not passing TPA.

Whether TPA gives Obama more authority than past Presidents have had in similar negotiations is irrelevant.

Obama should not be given any additional power, authority, or discretion -- not even a smidgeon.

Obama thinks that passing TPA will give him more power, authority, and discretion. This is shown by his heavy lobbying for passage of the bill.

For Cruz to say that TPA does not give Obama more authority is misleading.

Passing TPA would give Obama more power than he would have if the bill does not pass. Therefore, the bill should be opposed and defeated.

· Congress is the only entity that can make U.S. law and nothing about TPP or TPA could change that.

Whoa - someone needs to tell that clown DICK TATOR in the White Hut. AND Someone needs to tell Congress what their Constitutional duties are for removing a treasonous sitting pResident.

Why the big hurry? Why the "ALLOWED" secrecy? Remember the Bush years deals and laws which Obama now enjoys? Remember Conservatives on this forum yelling Stop and Think first? Remember the "You either with us or the terrorist crap each and every single time a Bush idea was scrutinized or questioned?

This deal needs to be shelved for a couple of years and then a slow, cautious, and all read and debated out in the open bill put forth. We have much bigger issues to address right now including a Tyrant destroying this nation. Another Obama Diversion anyone?

If Ted Cruz or anybody running can't understand and take a stand for openness in our trade and treaties then they do not belong in the office of POTUS no matter their voting record and BTW some are saying Sessions has low Conservative Voting scores. No his lifetime score is just fine. I like Cruz but on this issue I trust the experience and judgement of Sessions a lot more. I think Sessions very well realizes what will happen and Cruz is too eager on this to appease K-Street.

Everyone likes to say Reagan was Free Trade. Reagan said plainly "Trade Partners, Not Trade Patsies". Every RINO who is a RINO in both houses is pushing this and that sets off the BOHICA Alarms for me.

The Constitution requires 2/3 approval from the Senate to approve a treaty negotiated by the president.

TPA is unconstitutional.

Ted Cruz voted for it.

How can Senator Cruz trust Obama?
He doesn’t. Not at all. No part of Senator Cruz’s support for TPA was based on trusting Obama. However, under TPA, every trade deal is still subject to approval by Congress.

Whatever happened to the Constitutional requirement of a 2/3 approval by the Senate of all these "trade deals" that are actually treaties?

trea·ty
A formally concluded and ratified agreement between countries

Oh that's right. Just call a "treaty" by another name and it becomes a banana.

My basic concern is that very few of the political elites on either side of the coin, get up in the morning and say to themselves “what can I do to make the USA a more secure, a more free, a stronger nation, with increased economic opportunity for its citizens, and a nation with a rising median income.

Or do they wake up fearful that their corrupt 2 Party duopoly will fold and that the lobbyists and big donors owners will get frustrated and remove their watering trough? I do not believe for a moment that they serve us as their propaganda promotes.

Cruz’s arguments sound good in theory. The only thing he has left out is the fact that Obama can’t be trusted, and neither can Boehner, McConnell, or the rest of the RINO collaborators.

If Obama could be trusted to follow the guidelines required of him in a TPA bill, or if Boehner and McConnell could be trusted to stand firm with conservatives and defeat any TPP bill that was sent to them which strayed from the requirements set forth by the TPA bill, then perhaps Cruz’s position would make sense. Being that they can’t be trusted, Cruz’s position is flawed. Whether he is just being naïve or if his motives are more sinister, I don’t know.

You need to put down the Cruz Kool-Aid.

The TPA (aka the Fast Track) EMPOWERS the Excutive Branch, and weakens the Legislative Branch by requiring a 51% vote vs. what it is now a 2/3rds vote the that George Washington put in over 200 years.

Cruz has to reverse hit vote on the TPA and vote AGAINST the TPP. This is so ridiculous that the public cannot understand the TPP? It’s 100% criminal to hide this.

There is no transparency because is SCREW JOB that includes the United States STILL PAYS TARIFFS to countries in the agreement and the other countries DO NOT pay Tariffs to us. How is that free trade? It’s only free for them.

The TPA includes CARBON TAXES too. Hence, why Ryan was trying to save it by saying you can’t put Environmental legislation with it.

Rumor has it they are going to ban guns, web sites (3 strikes and you are out), allow international courts to come after Americans, etc... And Cruz is going to still vote for it, and LIE by calling it free trade.

Have you not figured out that whatever the feds call it...., it’s just the opposite. Think about it.... For instance, The Affordable Care Act (aka Obama-care). There is NOTHING AFFORDABLE ABOUT IT. Another example the PATRIOT ACT. It was just the opposite with spying on ALL AMERICANS instead of mainly fore

Please quit, falling hook, line and sinker from a bunch of certified Sociopaths and Psychopaths that are liars.

It’s a HUGE FRAUD!
