Frenship ISD teacher apologizes after McKinney-related segregation post

A Frenship teacher said she apologized after writing a Facebook post saying she was “almost to the point” of wanting segregation regarding a racially charged police issue in McKinney.

Karen Fitzgibbons, a teacher at Bennett Elementary School, told A-J Media she deleted the post Wednesday evening — a day after writing the publicly viewable post on her Facebook page.

Asked about the post, a Frenship ISD spokesman said such matters are “taken very seriously.”

Fitzgibbons started the post by saying a McKinney police officer’s resignation after a dispute at a swimming pool made her angry and that the officer should not have to resign.

“I’m going to just go ahead and say it ... the blacks are the ones causing the problems and this ‘racial tension.’ I guess that’s what happens when you flunk out of school and have no education. I’m sure their parents are just as guilty for not knowing what their kids were doing; or knew it and didn’t care. I’m almost to the point of wanting them all segregated on one side of town so they can hurt each other and leave the innocent people alone. Maybe the 50s and 60s were really on to something. Now, let the bashing of my true and honest opinion begin....GO!

He confirmed Fitzgibbons remained a fourth-grade teacher at the elementary as of Wednesday but declined to comment further on her status or possible action by the district, citing personnel issues.

If she remains a teacher then one would hope it's with all white students. If she'd fired then it could be the first Facebook firing resulting from McKenney. When will people learn to think and think and then think again before posting?

She will soon be economically dead for speaking the truth.

Well, we have quite a few black folks asking for what amounts to racial segregation in the schools (Afro-centric learning, the idea that blacks learn better without white kids around, etc). Are they racists, too?

(Yes.)

Could be. Latest reports are saying she has been fired.

WOW! That is real power that can reach down and economically destroy some obscure little teacher in an obscure little town. Do people really think that normal political methods can reverse such power?

I've noticed that people who say "I'm not racist" or people who claim "I can't be racist because I'm black" usually are.

Facebook and Twitter have cost more people their careers and livelyhoods then any other toola I can think of. Do people really think that only their closest "friends" can see what they post?

If one really thinks about it taking immediate punitive action against those who speak out demonstrates real fear on the part of those who administer the punishment. After all the ideas expressed may spread.

If she publicly states that she favors racial segregation of schools, she does not belong in a classroom.

In my city of 200,000 a Facebook page called “Community Forum” was instrumental in kicking out of office, to sitting city council members, last November.

It happened going from zero to 10,000 members in six months.

Lesson #1: Social media is powerful, for good and evil.

Lesson #2: While the page was effective, getting rid of two people that needed getting rid of, it failed to be effective selecting their replacements.

Consequently now the number one topic is opposition, to policies of the two replacement members.

Well she doesn't have to worry about being in a classroom in her old district. They've canned her.

You just need to remember some sage advice I got somewhere along the way: Think twice before speaking, three times before emailing, and four times before posting.

For better or worse it seems George Wallace, Lester Maddox, and many others could see the future of this country better than most....

They would not be suprised at what they would see today.
