***Colorado was becoming too much like California***

When I lived there 40 YEARS ago, the most popular bumper sticker was DON’T CALIFORNICATE COLORADO!

Whereas down in New Mexico it was PRAY FOR ME! I DRIVE HIWAY 44!

>People attack that which they fear

They certainly do, don’t they?

Tell us, why are you so afraid of marijuana? Show us on the doll where it touched you...

No, because while legal, pot is very much still demonized. Alaska recently made it legal, but unlike alcohol or tobacco, it’s currently illegal to be seen using it. Other states with legal pot have the same issues.

If I wanted to open a beer and whisky summer camp for adults, I’d be welcome to. No reason I shouldn’t be able to open a pot summer camp, too.

(full disclosure - I live in Alaska and am a proponent of responsible marijuana use. I am 46, have never been arrested, have been using marijuana for the past 30 years, and while I have seen many people either die or have their lives ruined through alcohol or tobacco use, I have yet to see or experience the same thing with marijuana use. I was brought up to think that beer is perfectly fine and marijuana is a sure way to end up on heroin, and it’s frankly not true. I used to be a moderate drinker, but after a divorce, spiraled into some heavy drinking that got really ugly and had all kinds of nefarious physical effects. I have quit drinking heavily, though I still have a martini every now and again (maybe six or twelve throughout a month). I don’t smoke pot every day, but I do use it to unwind at the end of the day and to get to sleep easier. Since cutting down on alcohol and using moderate amounts of pot, every single bit of my bloodwork at the doctor has improved, and he gives me the full bill of health. I do not think that it is a miracle drug or without its drawbacks (it can be easy if you’re not careful to use too much and get unmotivated), but it doesn’t lead to DTs, withdrawal that can kill you, or the kind of hell that can exist after a heavy bender by an alcoholic.)

The marijuana vs alcohol argument is a red herring. It’s irrelevant to the fact that marijuana is harmful. It’s a distraction.

All readers, here’s some info about the marijuana vs. alcohol.

* Marijuana suppresses the gag reflex in drinkers, allowing for more drinking before vomiting.

* Alcohol suppresses the initial paranoia of a marijuana high, making it more “mellow.”

The two are often consumed together. So although most pot smokers are not teetotalers, what if...? Read the following.

On alcohol abuse,...

http://www.drugfreeworld.org/drugfacts/alcohol.html

Don’t smoke pot. Don’t get drunk. Don’t do as the local pot smoking drunks do. Even if there’s no one else to socialize with, it’s healthier to avoid socializing with them.

I’m afraid the bumper stickers did not work!
