Kevin McCarthy Pressured By Republican Conference: What’s The Rush On Obamatrade Plans

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA)is pressuring House GOP leadership, particularly Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy to delay plans to muscle Obamatrade through the House of Representatives quickly. In in a letter to McCarthy obtained exclusively by Breitbart News, he’s asking leadership to slow down and consider the ramifications of what it is doing. “I write to you today to request that you delay any vote on fast-track authority for the Executive until the President has made public all text and information pertaining to the new economic union known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership Commission, as well the ‘Living Agreement’ authority,” Hunter wrote to McCarthy, his fellow California Republican. “My concern is that this allows the President and the members of the union to change the agreement and its membership following adoption.”

Hunter’s concern is well founded.

Cruz never said anything like your rantings and I never posted anything like it.

Fast Track is current ‘legislation’ that grants ‘authority’. It does not specify any trade detail like with China or the. Euro Union etc. Any ‘specific’ deal terms are to be voted up or down by Congress.

So much fun to see the trolls come out of the woodwork.

You are really making yourself look silly. You're making nonsense up that I did not say and then pretending to refute what you made up.

Uh huh...sure, coming from someone who hasn’t read the because YOU are not allowed.

I’ll trust Ted Cruz over the likes of you anyday.

Lol, you continue to do everything but address any specific comment I made. What I've said about fast track authority and the TPP was correct and all your attempts at dissembling don't change that.

And you aren't helping Ted Cruz with all your unsubstantiated claims and assertions that Cruz has somehow tied Obama's hands on immigration and climate control aspects of any future trade agreements. He hasn't.

That you comment on something you could not have read can only mean you heard it from someone. I heard it from Ted Cruz and it was corroborated by other members of Congress. No members of Congress refuted Ted Cruz’ report of what’s in the bill.

So where did you hear it from? Let me guess, some moron from Politico or Salon?

Stop playing this childish game of making statements and trying to attribute things to me, and then pretending to refute what you say I said, but which you did not specifically bring forward in quotes from a post of mine.

Quote from a comment of mine those things you claim I have said.

You made statements. They have to be based on something or you just made them up. If the latter, then you’re not worth an iota of anyone’s time here or anywhere.

So name your sources or crawl away; simple as that.

You made statements.

So, copy those statements of mine to a new post and tell what me what you disagree with. Very simple.

They have to be based on something or you just made them up. If the latter, then you’re not worth an iota of anyone’s time here or anywhere.

So name your sources or crawl away; simple as that.

Lol, lol, lol, you're really making a fool of yourself. Copy the statements I made to a post and comment on them.

Signing off this nonsense for tonight. Maybe sometime you can manage to respond to something I actually said.

The nonsense is on you.

From your post #36 you ‘said’:

> “Cruz nor anyone else will have tied Obama’s hands on anything if fast track authority is passed by the House as it was in the Senate. And if Obama is given fast track authority, no amendments will be allowed and there is no way the House or Senate will vote down the entire TPP in an up or down vote.”

And I responded in detail and linked you to the exact time where Senator Cruz answered all concerns regarding both TPA and TPP.

Here it is again at time 52:00 to 57:46,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sznh5AjageI

And you could not have read TPP yourself because it is not public. But Ted Cruz has read it and he addresses it in the above link.

But you made the statement above “there is no way the House or Senate will vote down the entire TPP in an up or down vote” which is a false statement.

______________________________________________________

For those reading and seeking understanding, you will note that this poster ‘Will88’ is typical of what are called concern trolls of which many have appeared on this thread and they will appear repeatedly in future threads where they will attempt again and again to muddy the waters regarding Senator Cruz and his trustworthiness.

Senator Cruz explains with great clarity that the trade bill or TPA has been sought by many presidents both republican and democrat but that if he or any republican is elected President, then the democrats will NEVER vote to give trade authority. This is evidenced by Warren’s blog here http://www.elizabethwarren.com/blog where she spells out in no uncertain terms that TPA must be stopped to prevent a republican from having that trade power.

Why do we need TPA? Ted Cruz again lays out a clear case of how trade agreements in the past have failed because a president negotiates with foreign powers and then Congress changes it greatly via amendments. The result is trade deals don’t get done because no foreign power will deal with a US President. TPA is designed to remedy this weakness. TPA in and of itself is not a bad thing, it is the presence of Obama that renders every good thing as an object of disdain. More on this below.

What is wanted? It depends on who is doing the wanting:

Obama wants Climate Change and Amnesty Authority in the TPA (amnesty by way of granting work permits to migrant labor as part of the TPA). But Ted Cruz filed an amendment to stop any abuse of immigration law and he filed it as S.Amdt 1384 as an amendment to S.Amdt 1221 (https://www.congress.gov/amendment/114th-congress/senate-amendment/1221). Ted Cruz’s amendment is in the Senate passed bill for Fast Track. So Ted Cruz has tied Obama’s hands on Obama’s attempt at backdoor amnesty but according to the poster ‘Will88’ Cruz has done nothing of the kind. Will88 is not alone in his misinformed state as poster ‘sunrise_sunset’ went further to falsely claim that Ted’s immigration amendment was defeated, and he did not bother to respond to my polite request for a link to a source of that because it does not exist.

So Ted Cruz gets credit for inserting language in the bill that bars Obama from using TPA to negotiate migrant labor terms that violate US Immigration Law (Backdoor Amnesty).

Obama also wants Climate Change tax and regulation negotiating authority but the TPA bill has weak provisions for such matters. It’s a non-starter. For example Australia or China in the Pacific will snub any proposal for Climate Change regulations and the UK and certain countries in Europe will do the same.

So what does Ted want from TPA? He says it clearly in the youtube link given above at time 53:53. He is representing his Texan constituents and in fact all Americans. For example, America has huge surpluses in Natural Gas (NG) that can be liquified to LNG, put on vessels and exported. Korea is making huge demands for American LNG. Europe is begging for it to decrease their dependence on Russia. But Obama won’t give LNG export applications any consideration (it takes about 10 years to get an export license for LNG).

Why does Ted want TPA now? Because it won’t be possible later. With Obama stymied on Backdoor Amnesty and Climate Change, there’s not much trade Obama can or will negotiate. He certainly will do nothing to help the oil and gas industries. But with a republican president, the trade authority can be used to create millions of secure well-paid jobs ( and this is not talk; just look at the job growth in fracking and drilling for oil in the last 5 years; now there’s an oil glut and Obama won’t allow for oil exports).

In sum, TPA strengthens the republican party and its brand and that is why democrats won’t vote for it; simple as that. Obama won’t get much of anything from it because of amendments passed that tie his agenda up. But republicans will get a lot from it and Ted Cruz in particular will use it as a formidable foundation of his economic plan to resuscitate American commerce.

And I responded in detail and linked you to the exact time where Senator Cruz answered all concerns regarding both TPA and TPP.

Cruz explains nothing in that link, but only gives the same old rationale for fast track authority that's been used for decades. He does end proclaiming that the text of TPP should not be secret, but how much does anyone think that will change the situation? If you think Cruz said anything significant in that youtube link, you are only demonstrating how ignorant you are of the history of fast track authority and how it's always been justified.

And you could not have read TPP yourself because it is not public. But Ted Cruz has read it and he addresses it in the above link.

Lol, more of your straw men and false assumptions. Show me where I have made any claim to have read TPP or to know the details of its provisions.

But you made the statement above “there is no way the House or Senate will vote down the entire TPP in an up or down vote” which is a false statement.

Lol, show me where they've ever voted down a trade agreement negotiated under fast track authority? It is set up that way to make it as difficult as possible to defeat a trade agreement.

All this blather about creating jobs and expanding exports with some new trade agreement is the same blather used to promote past trade agreements. The same was said for NAFTA, when we had a slight trade surplus with Mexico. Now we have a $60 billion trade deficit with Mexico and growing/

Millions of jobs and thousands of factories have left the US after the major trade agreements of the past 30 or so years. What the agreements really do is lower and eventually remove the tariffs on goods imported into the US, removing the final disincentives for US manufacturers to move out of the US and take advantage of the world's cheapest labor and lax regulation, with no tariff expense on what is exported back to the US.

And any amendment attached to the fast track authority bill has not been passed in the House yet and might not be passed, or might be removed. You keep talking about "backdoor amnesty". If a trade ageement contains provisions allowing certain numbers of workers to move from nation to nation, then that is not a backdoor amnesty, but simply a legal agreement related to particular types of workers.

What Cruz has demonstrated is that he is the same old, same old when it comes to international trade. He's aligned with the interest of the transnational corporations and others who are selling the same old line to promote so-called free trade that has been used since WWII.

You act as if Ted is providing some brilliant new insight into the issue of fast track and international trade, but it's nothing but what's been used for several decades. And all the past promises of job creation in the US have resulted in millions of manufacturing jobs leaving the US, and any new agreements with Asian nations will continue that trend.

The Asian model for growth used by Japan, South Korea, China and others is simple: gain maximum access to the US market, allow minimal access to your home Asian market, lure US manufacturers to cheaper labor, and grow by the increased manufacturing and export activity created in your Asian nation. Has worked every time and Vietnma, and Cambodia, Bangladesh and others are loooking forward to the same growth model if TPP is passed.

I like Cruz and wanted to support him until this issue came along. But he's singing the same old song on the fast track and trade issues, even if you don't realize it. He's not offering any new insight on anything, just repeating what's been used in the past.

Thanks for the input.

Sounds like a good plan, except Ted’s path the POTUS. He’s in the hunt, but not in the top three. I like him - I’d vote for him, but his style is not appealing to lots of people.

I would love to watch him debate Hillary.
