To restate the obvious, the autopsy report is crucial. At first blush it looked like an uninjured Gray went into custody and came out mortally injured, with the police offering no explanation for what happened. However, if one looks at the tape of him being loaded into the police van, it looks like his legs weren’t working very well. That cold have been caused by his suffering a spinal trauma while resisting arrest, a fact that might be disclosed by the autopsy and might show he was the primary author of his own mortal injury, a true game changer.
I don’t think she can withhold the report from the defense due to the rules of discovery; I believe she is trying to keep it from being released to the public or trying to delay the discovery process. Eventually, the defense will get the report. Lessons learned from Ferguson.
