I understand that. In most cases the bullies are ignored unless I am in an especially mischievous mood. Then I like to antagonize them.
My point is that many posters of great articles have left because they are bullied for having an opinion.
Replies on this site used to be clever, funny, and articulate. They can no longer be described that way.
I would bet that the average age of the poster of articles and responses here has risen to the early 70’s. There are more people on here that remind me of the drunk guys at the end of the bar at the local VFW than they do the folks standing around the water cooler. They are opinionated, close minded, and argumentative. Their view of the world was frozen when they got back from Southeast Asia, and it hasn’t changed.
Free Republic, as a place to get the latest news and information that supports the conservative view point will not make it until the end of the next political cycle.
I stopped donating in protest of the bullying. Until the moderators start moderating, I will continue to point out the bullying and keep my wallet closed. I am sure there are hundreds like me.
Well, from my end of the bar I have to plead guilty, I guess. I was so attracted to FreeRepublic in the beginning I suppose because the posters were so knowledgeable in depth about the topics I was in awe of the learning available. In many ways it has become more of a “locker room” than a library. I admit I have several times passed a period in a self imposed moratorium on posting. I am getting close to that again. It may be time.
I just had a conversation with an older gentleman over memorial day weekend. He is an ardent VFW recruiter and a nice enough person. However, we were having a discussion about politics and he was an out and out R supporter, no matter the policies!
That conversation has left me with a very uncomfortable feeling and I could not put my finger on why. Your post describing some on FR finally put those feelings into words!

Hannity, Rush, Fox News the MSN and a myriad of other prominent news "sources" blogs etc get their breaking news from FR and not only don't donate, but don't give a HT to FR very often.
Management isn't concerned about getting credit, just cares about getting the best news/analysis out there to the people.
If FR does go belly up as you predict and are helping push it in that direction, so what?
