Well I'm not so sure there isn't more to this then the information we have...even so it appears from the little I've just researched the religious practices of this family are strict and controlling. But there are households which are without the religious aspect as well.

If you eliminate the show aspect entirely...and media hype and simply focus on the happening years ago, which seems to be what the focus is about. Then I don't see that I would have handled it differently then they did...though I might have sought outside help a bit earlier then they did, still I can't see they were negligent in how they handled this situation with their son. Every thing else about this is really simply part of their reality show....and the media's hype.
