Breaking a femur usually involves hitting an object or a fall from a great height...unless his bones are brittle.

Anybody know more about this?

As much as I dislike Kerry’s policies, I do not wish that kind of pain upon someone of his age. This may be a game changer for him, unless, he can commandeer most aspects of his job via skype. Maybe Obama will send Sargeant Glum aka Susan Rice, in Kerry’s place.

Sometimes called a high side fall.

Rider is leaning inward while turning,a wheel is sometimes ‘tripped’ causing the rider to be whipped to the side over the bike.

Much or your momentum goes into the whipping action.

Not good.

If he fell to the inside and broke the largest and heaviest bone... very bad luck.

In the above article, Kerry’s spokesmouth said the femur break is near the site “of his previous hip surgery”.
I never remember hearing about Kerry having had a hip replacement, but if so, a femur fracture near the site of a hip replacement is a very, very bad thing.
To do a hip replacement requires screwing the prosthetic hip joint down into the femur. If the break is anywhere near that, the stability of the whole mess is at risk. To repair that is kind of like putting toothpaste back in the tube.
