I’ve ridden pretty much anything with two wheels that I could get my hands on all my life. Dirt bikes, motorcycles, mountain bikes and road bikes.
Each is a a different discipline of the same science and both carry inherent dangers. Don’t disparage cyclists by implying that they are not “serious bikers” and if you doubt this you’re more than welcome to try following me down a descent at 55 mph on a bike that weigh 18 pounds and has 23mm wide tires. It’s a terrifying, wonderful experience.
On a side note, about ten years ago I was cycling to work. It was only 30 miles and I left just as the sun was cracking the sky. About 12 miles in there was a Cat 2 climb that I had been up many times before. It’s fairly steep and as I was about 1/4 mile from the summit when I had a strange sense of awareness and clarity. I don’t know if God has ever spoken to me directly but if there was one time, that was it. Fog settling in the woods on either side, the sun cresting the mountain in front of me, absolute science broken only by my breathing, heart pounding and the clicking of chain against gears. Maybe it was just the adrenalin talking but I was suddenly aware of the beauty and futility of my endeavors and that this was all provided for me to enjoy by his graces.
I don’t care for Kerry and dispose his ideologies but as a fellow human being (or a horse) I wish him a quick recovery.

Oh dear...I am REALLY sorry I came across as disparaging to ANY 2-wheeled biker (motorized or not!). I just get a little acerbic talking about Kerry. I am from Boston and know Kerry well. (Grrrrr). I was also one of Boston’s Original Bicycle Couriers! So you DO have my utmost respect, FRiend.
