Power corrupts.
I remember, back in my days of working on/around Capitol Hill, all the attractive young women and men who ruthlessly try to land a Congressman. Either for career advancement or just sport. Regardless of that Congressmans marital status. If you were a male Congressman wanting to get laid it was an all you can eat buffet. If you were a weak willed Congressman, you were pretty easy prey.
I also know that a lot of male Congressmen, usually at the insistence of their wives, had staff who were designated to shadow their Congressman and run off the vultures.
I was more House-side, but heard the Senate was much, much worse. A lot of Senators have what are called hideaways in the Capital, which are secret private rooms they can trick out any way theyd like. And pretty much use however theyd like.
SICK. Like ancient Rome in the perverted Nero days.

But, in fairness, also nothing new. Read the full story about Congressman Dan Sickles' murder of Philip Barton Key (son of Francis Scott Key) in Lafayette Park, across from the White House, just prior to the Civil War.
Including the part where, after the war, Sickles used his power to have the section of wrought iron fence he gunned Keys down on moved up to the National Cemetery at Gettysburg. Where his little trophy remains to this day separating the National Cemetery from the civilian one.
