I do not see much use in intemperate language, name calling etc. But, my concern with it is way down the list in light of the serious issues that this case raises. “Who shall guard the guardians?” is the most important question that a free people must deal with.

“Who shall guard the guardians?”

In this case, primarily the local level. Those dead and arrested are Texans. It happened in Waco. People there know better than we do if their LE are generally to be trusted at the town and county level.

At least some of the information we are all speculating about is public record, available at the Court House. Local people and local reporters can easily do that. Other information could be obtained under Freedom of Information requests.

If the County does not like the way their Sheriff or DA operates, they don’t even have to wait for the next election to start a recall.

Locals also would be more aware of the gang situation, as there would likely have been reporting on the incidents that led up to the conflict at Twin Peaks.

Any investigative reporting team could go to Waco and find out all of the above and then some.

As I mentioned I am keeping a spread sheet of those arrested. I am waiting for information about this week’s hearings, etc. But to me it is a list of names — I don’t know which ones are violent criminals, and which ones got “caught up” in the situation. Local people know these people, such as the ones who had their bonds drastically reduced and presumably there will be more this week.

Locals will be on the juries when the cases finally go to trials. Local citizens and reporters can go down to the court house and attend any of the hearings in the mean time.

That also happens to be the way our system of governance works. Texas is a Sovereign State to the extent the Federal Government does not exceed its enumerated powers. Outsiders need not tell locals who to vote for at the City and County level. It is their right to vote for the candidate of their choice. I have not looked up the party of the DA or Sheriff, etc.

No one is going to get the answers any more quickly by calling other people names.

I’d worry more about Jade Helm than McClennan County.
