I am not comfortable with it but the Declaration of Independence was written to defend and promote the Peculiar Institution.

It was mentioned to acknowledge it but not to promote it.

Mentioned? It was one of the reasons the northern (and southern) colonies were fighting Britian - to promote the preservation the Peculiar Institution.

“He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.” This was mentioned too. Do you know why?
