Well, it’s clear who can have an intelligent non vitriolic conversation.

If you think the confederates were heroes you got a screw loose.

They could have been heroes, but they were unwilling to give up their free labor.

“All men are created equal.”

Unless when they are a slave, black or white. Right? Indentured or forced, right?

Yep. My lib teacher.

I never said the root cause was slavery did I?

All the South had to do was free their slaves, and they would have won. States would be sovereign, and we would have a much less tyrannical government. But instead of doing the right thing, they didn’t.

Slavery was a major factor whether you like it or not.

The Civil War was to resign from a tyrannical government and go their separate ways.

How was the government tyrannical?

Check your history.

I did. And I know of nothing that shows the U.S. government taxed exports. Only imports. And most of those were delivered to the North. So perhaps you can help us out and point us to your source?

I "support shortsighted lunatics that would rather be able to keep slaves, instead of giving America the freedom it deserved"?

Ok then.

“All men are created equal.”

I am not comfortable with it but the Declaration of Independence was written to defend and promote the Peculiar Institution. You do know that don’t you?

The Federal government at the time had duties on any thing exported from this country.

No they didn't. The duty was only on imports.

What ever Lost Cause literature you have been reading has lied to you.

I know so little about history . . . are you saying the South was fighting to preserve slavery and the north was fighting to end slavery?

The south was fighting to expand slavery which the North opposed. The North was fighting to preserve the Union which the South didn't care about.

It was mentioned to acknowledge it but not to promote it.

“It was mentioned to acknowledge it but not to promote it.”

Mentioned? It was one of the reasons the northern (and southern) colonies were fighting Britian - to promote the preservation the Peculiar Institution.

“He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.” This was mentioned too. Do you know why?

A very minor reason - a tactic more than a strategy. Do you know the difference?

“A very minor reason . . .”

You claim the Peculiar Institution was “minor?” To whom was it minor?

In the whole of the relationship between Great Britain and the colonies the Colonialist’s employment of slaves was a minor issue.

“In the whole of the relationship between Great Britain and the colonies the Colonialist’s employment of slaves was a minor issue.”

King George's decision to “excite domestic insurrections” was a deal breaker for the colonialists - not the only one but an important one. I say that based on reading the DoI.

“I would suggest that you are reading too much into it.”

Maybe I take the words found there too seriously. The signers of the Declaration of Independence joked around all the time.
