LATE SCHUBERT PIANO PIECES

This is in 4/4 and marked “allegro molto moderato.” The opening section in C minor is dead serious, but he goes lyrical with the central section in A-flat. Schubert’s ability to spin great melodies is on display. The counterpoint will break your heart. The opening section returns with the rhythm of the central section. The A-flat section returns, but drastically truncated. He finishes with C minor section, but stated in C Major, one of his patented techniques.

Schubert: Impromptu in C minor, D. 899/1
