I’m sure it was some sort ‘hit’ from a left leaning organization that gave the media a call.

The left has already made a LOT of hay from this.

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to find that one of these activists got the information out there.

As I said, a horrible event being use by horrible people for their own political gain.

No real winners here.

“Now it’s turned 180.”

I’ll have to take your word for it...
inside Free Republic.

Outside this forum, what I said will
be the narrative. But if you’re saying
that the whole thing was a freak show
from the beginning put on by an anti-
American TV network, then, again, I’ll
take your word for it. Still, the end
result will be that large families,
Christians, and traditional values
will be defamed. Ok, the family in
question was never a good role model,
but the media won’t be happy until
everyone merely shacks up, never has
kids, hates God, and kills babies before
they’re born, and dies a bitter atheist
using (bad?) examples like the Duggars.

In fact, they reported it not to the police, but to a single policeman. Who did nothing. And, who is now in prison for possession of child pornography.

This story is weird.

But the rumors have been around since at least ‘06. I used to follow the series and commentary on a board called television without pity (twop for short) during that time. There was a poster (maybe two?) that insinuated that there was ‘sin in the camp’ and that the sin was josh molesting his sisters. The rest of the posters thought that was outrageous and that at most he’d been caught with one of the Holt girls (they were family friends back then).

So the rumors have been out there for a very long time.

And at the time (’06), it was an Oprah producer (they were scheduled to appear on the show) called the cops in Arkansas, which is where the police report originated.

I wonder now, if the poster on twop wasn’t the oprah producer or someone involved in the show.

I’ve read that their former pastor, when they went to a brick and mortar church, was guilty of the same thing. I honestly haven’t tracked that down more than that. But I have to wonder if all that is why they stopped going to the church they grew up and got married in.

Quite the contrary. But again, this demonstrates extraordinarily bad judgement by the Duggar parents, and an apparent disregard for their daughters. Yet, they decided to put their entire narrative on television for all the world to see. It’s discussion-worthy, don’t you think?

Your ad hominem attack is in violation of the FR rules.

It’s also possible to dislike Lena Dunham and Jim Duggars at the same time.

Yes, it is.

You’re one of the few that has brought up concern for the victims of these crimes and their parents’ apparent indifference. Probably no surprise given the Dugger’s patriarchal cult calls for males to dominate females at every opportunity. Sickening.

And the trooper SHOULD have made an official report on it. But he didn't because he is a pedo too and now in prison for it.

I defended the Duggars for YEARS to people who thought their way of life was extreme. I thought there was nothing wrong with protecting your kids from the crap in the world.b(Still don't) Old-fashioned courting seemed so appealing in contrast to the hookup culture. The kids' marriages seemed destined to last.

I hope they will last. But now that the fame and glory the spouses married into is over, we'll see if they really believe in their vows.

It is the PARENTS a I am most disappointed in. They don't deserve lynching, but they don't deserve to be on TV marketing themselves as role models.

“Little People, Big World” was a very nice show, with a seemingly normal, loving family (some of whom are little people). It was a rarity, though"

I always liked that show, although I thought Amy was a witch.

Jeremy's wedding episode was sweet.

Jonty, I think it was more than just a need to mature. I just asked my husband if, at 14, he would have ever considered molesting his sister. He gave me a horrified look and asked if I’d lost my mind.

I think getting mixed-up in the Gothard cult helped bring it on.

No ad hominem there, merely a statement of opinion. One I happen to agree with.

That could very well be. However, some people who are raised in healthy households, who are getting emotionally fed, will not be subject to this kind of temptation. Sexual sins, on the part of males, is an indication of a person who isn’t being emotionally fed.

If he hasn’t done anything in the past 13 years, he’s probably developed enough that this isn’t much a temptation any more.

Well, it’s just that sexual sin seems to permeate the Gothard movement for some reason. And now I’m reading that Josh’s received counseling from....wait for it....the serial abuser, Bill Gothard.

To be honest, I think the girls deserve the sympathy and concern here.

I do as well. I’m not intending to minimize what happened to the girls.

My comments are not intended to reflect the idea that nothing has happened to the girls.

Another thing that bothers me is that the Duggars’ faith teaches girls to dress modestly to prevent the men from being tempted. That sounds familiar...like a certain Middle-Eastern “religion” I’m thinking of.

So I wonder if the girls believed the molestation was their fault for not being modest enough. I hope not.

Maybe there’s a lot more of this stuff going on than we know about.
