MEMORIAL plaques for 15 war veterans were among 48 stolen from graves at a Frankston cemetery in a crime branded despicable by police.
Caretakers of the Frankston Memorial Park were horrified when they discovered the headstone plaques missing on May 13. They were taken overnight.
Frankston RSL sub-branch secretary Brent Clyne said: Desecrating a grave in itself is an abominable act but to also target war graves its just heartless and senseless.
A war grave is a sacred site meaning so much to the Frankston Community, its where many of our war dead are laid to rest and these sites should never ever be tampered with or damaged.
And to do this sort of thing on the year we commemorate the Gallipoli landing is horrific.
We hope police find and prosecute these perpetrators and we will do everything we can to work with the cemeteries trust to help these plaques be reinstated.
Frankston Council mayor Cr Sandra Mayer said the theft was disgusting and disrespectful.
Vandalising graves is a disgusting act that defies human logic; defacing the monuments left to honour lost loved ones, Cr Mayer said.
News of this vandalism will naturally upset the families and friends of those whose plaques were taken or damaged during the crime.
This crime is particularly disrespectful, considering that 15 of these graves belonged to war veterans.

Not meaning to be disrespectful...but What sort of RESALE value could such plaques possibly have??
I suppose that the plaques may be bronze so there is the possibility that they’d be sold for scrap but any scrap metal dealer with a BRAIN would put an end to these creeps “careers” quite rapidly.
God Bless!!
Damn democraps.
Not much - they would likely get about $10 per plaque from a scrap metal dealer. But the scum who do this are often doing it for money to buy drugs and they will try anything.
And the best chance for catching them will be a scrap metal dealer calling the police - there are plenty who will, but others are just as bad as the thieves themselves. It’s an industry that seems to attract some ‘no questions asked’ types.
however it comes about, I hope that the thieves will get thiers
that works for me!
Where is this located?
