At least part of the trembling left in my arms when I shoot is the realization that it would be so easy – so simple and easy – to turn out the side of my cubby in the range and shoot someone next to me.

Just as it would be perfectly easy for me to turn the wheel and head-on the guy in the other lane.

But I don't do it. And very few people do. If you are going to have the power to protect yourself and your loved ones, by definition you have power to destroy the innocent. With great power comes great responsibility.

BTW, as a fairly large male I have the power to overpower most females I see. But I don't. I don't even think about it. The woman is a little odd to be thinking about such things.
