Funny you should mention that. I’ve been reading Tom Cahill’s Jews’ Gift to the World, and he says that before Abraham, there was no history, because Mesopotamian and other civilizations viewed all human events as cyclical, and the individual’s life as a mere reflection of the stars’ movement. His Biblical scholarship and theories are just plain awful. He misquotes, flaunts his ignorance, pontificates shamelessly, and claims to draw from a wealth of Biblical textual scholarship that even a poor slob like me can see through.
But he is on the ball about this one thing. What he misses is that those who hate the Jews and hate Western civilization really long for that cyclical world view. They want a Thousand Year Reich with a god king ruling absolutely in a never-changing cycle of divine Fuhrers, or Party Chairmans. They look at the five hundred years of Ottoman stagnation as a good thing and long for it, because nothing ever changed, but moved in cycles like the seasons. Same thing with DAESH (or ISIS if you prefer). They want to end linear history, because they want back in to the Caliphate, which never changes. Anti-Semitism is anti-Risky-Schemism, trading progress and hope in for never-ending bondage. Islam is the same thing, only without the polytheism. Big deal.
ISIS is the Middle Eastern brother of the Khmer Rouge and their Year Zero concept. Totally destroy all signs of the past; create your own new society from Day 1 onward.
