It works the same way for gun control. Being armed tends to make you safer, but for a gun control proponent one instance of someone having their own gun used against them will trump all other evidence.

Maybe it does...I’ve never used the drug first-hand. I’m a pretty calm person. My contention is that maybe MJ calms some groups and not others.
