The Nazi Wannsee Protocols were held in deep secrecy even as the experiments for their implementation went forward in 1941. (The Protocols were signed at the end of 1940.)

The wife of Hitler's national Hitlerjugend organization couldn't imagine, when she saw it happening in spring 1941, why German officers and men were treating a bunch of old men, women, and children so badly. It was the beginning of the roundups of Jews for slaughter. She couldn't imagine what she was seeing before her eyes.
