Thanks FRiend. I’ve been thinking about doing this since I heard the news at 2 o’clock this morning. I’ve haven’t done many “Goodbye To A Legend” jukes since Gary Moore passed the night I was featuring him here and that juke evolved into a eulogy. But B.B. - he was a true legend that influenced every guitar slinger that ever heard him. His understated simplicity was one of a kind.
I called my band partner and woke him at 7 AM with the news. We talked about B.B. for a few hours; we both have a lot of good memories having seen dozens of concerts between us. He met him in Germany in the 70s and I met him in the early 80s. Riley King was such a gentle soul and came up from sharecropper beginnings to be one of the biggest stars of our generation. He worked tirelessly as an ambassador of blues and deserves a debt I can’t begin to repay with this modest tribute.
