PHILADELPHIA — An assistant conductor on the Amtrak train that derailed on Tuesday believes she heard the engineer tell another regional train operator in a radio transmission that the train had been struck by something just before the accident, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
At a news conference on Friday, Robert L. Sumwalt, the safety board official who is leading the investigation, said the F.B.I. had been asked to examine what he described as a fist-size impact area found on the lower left side of the train’s windshield. Officials said that the F.B.I. had been called in because it has the forensics expertise needed for the investigation, but that it had not yet begun its analysis.

Isn’t there a pic of him with the train routes in the background (gotnews.com)? If he was knowledgeable of route, he would KNOW there was a curve there even if trying to ‘escape’ something. How long was he on this particular ‘beat’?

You should watch CNN. They are building up the engineer’s image as a hero who was very concerned about the very same accident that occurred. They are saying that this was his dream job and he is totally devastated that this happened. Why are they building him up so much like this? From the start of the reporting they have been building him up to be a hero and an angel. This is deliberate and why are they doing it? Is it because he is gay? Or is it because he is gay and may be found guilty of negligence? Something fishy here.

was it a planted rumor...that was aired for examination by a very large FOCUS GROUP..of “news” “consumers”..and was found to be SALEABLE? I have to wonder

a San Francisco transplant....might..have tried such a stunt....
Maybe in the direction of travel, but at double the speed, it “stays” in a location 1/2 the time. So a stationary person throwing something might have a better chance at hitting the slower lead car.
