PHILADELPHIA An assistant conductor on the Amtrak train that derailed on Tuesday believes she heard the engineer tell another regional train operator in a radio transmission that the train had been struck by something just before the accident, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
At a news conference on Friday, Robert L. Sumwalt, the safety board official who is leading the investigation, said the F.B.I. had been asked to examine what he described as a fist-size impact area found on the lower left side of the trains windshield. Officials said that the F.B.I. had been called in because it has the forensics expertise needed for the investigation, but that it had not yet begun its analysis.

So the broken glass obscured the engineer's field of vision, which prevented him from swerving to avoid something on the tracks? /s
The in cab /car forward looking vehicle cams are typically located but inches from the w/s. Their position is not designed to see much of the total area of the w/s.
nope they wouwldnt have much visual “coverage” of the train itself then I suspect.
Thank you.
We were struck by a rock that went through our windshield while driving on the highway going 50 mph. It didn’t cause us to speed up to twice our speed. Wonder why that happened to the train? S/s
yea yea thats it...thats the ticket
the engineer was on crack?
Link still works from my desktop, unless it still comes from the cache after multiple reloads. Your link on my tablet didn't....
Sounds right!
The daughter of an acquaintance was on that train and was critically injured. Terrible terrible!
Sumwalt said Thursday that the train was traveling above 70 mph at 65 seconds before impact. At 43 seconds before impact, it exceeded 80 mph. At 31 seconds, it had increased to 90 mph. Sixteen seconds before impact, it topped 100."
This camera video might be useful. Yep.
No, I do not work on the railroad. I like trains but not enough to stand by the tracks and record them. I can see and listen to all the trains I want from the comfort of my home, online.
only the most stable people should be given the responsibilty for the operation of “public “ “conveyances”. Ths clown doesnt appear to have even approached such a standard.
God bless you.
Pray for Gerylyns recovery.
The trains in the NE corridor are electric. But we have to stay on message that it wasn’t terrorism. Compare the condition of that car with the engine ahead and the cars behind. The explanation used for TWA 800 seems to work as well as any.
Oops. I posted my reply at 296 to myself, instead of to you.
SHOEBOMBER II coming to a front page near you....
That is a tall order.
With so many people involved in this thing, it would be very hard to hide a terrorist attack. Eventually it would leak out. They tried it in Benghazi and look what happened.
number two, that angle looks like the so called "shooter" would have been standing on the tracks to shoot straight in...
and number three, slowing down a train from 100 to 50 is a process, not done instantaneously..it would call for exerted effort to do it, and not just "moments"....
why was the train going that fast?....no one seems able to answer that question....
