PHILADELPHIA An assistant conductor on the Amtrak train that derailed on Tuesday believes she heard the engineer tell another regional train operator in a radio transmission that the train had been struck by something just before the accident, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
At a news conference on Friday, Robert L. Sumwalt, the safety board official who is leading the investigation, said the F.B.I. had been asked to examine what he described as a fist-size impact area found on the lower left side of the trains windshield. Officials said that the F.B.I. had been called in because it has the forensics expertise needed for the investigation, but that it had not yet begun its analysis.

apparently he’s been this life long train aficionado and had driven that route for 5 yrs.....”mistakenly thought he was beyond the curve”......not...buying....it....
occams razor or whatever....the engineer him alone sped up the train and then did not brake soon enough....causing the crash...
and even the engineer was left to live...
if I was a terrorist, I guess I would make a better plan than try to sit in one spot silently and wait, wait, wait til just the exact moment I could get a shot off to hit the engineer....nearly impossible IMO from pics I have seen of the interior....
Possibly, the engineer felt threatened and was attempting to flee from the situation?
The truth is out there...did they bring in Mulder and Scully?
Suuuure.....
During a traffic safety class that the military required the younger troops to attend when coming into a new area, they had some about not competing with the trains for a spot on the tracks. I can still hear an engineer telling us how he had encountered several vehicles and that what stuck with him most is how he never felt the impacts. The train engine is so massive that a car is nothing to it - a fist-sized dent did not hamper the train's stability on the tracks - unless the engineer sharply tugged the steering wheel due to surprise..........(take tongue out of cheek now).
The distance from the Philly Amtrak Station to the Crash Junction can be measured from aerial/satellite pics. The time has been stated as about 11 min after leaving the station. NTSB have indicated that speed was 70 mph (after acceleration to same) and gave some speed vs time numbers for the last couple of minutes. It would be good to know the exact location the other train was hit as it apparently was using the same right of way. I also noted that the NTSB spokes person also gave 910 as the departure time from Philly.
It makes no difference if something hit the train.
The train was going over twice the speed the curve in that part of the track was designed to handle. It was going to derail regardless if something hit the train first."
The media is invested to concoct a falsity to aid the defense, to force the Philly District Attorney to arbitrarily file something lower than pre-meditated first degree murder.
Hell, if you take away malice in Penn, and nullfy the jury with this 'distraction' trope, it's already down to manslaughter.
perhaps some loopy untrained al qaida wanna be
no reports of that other trains crashing nope
there do seem to be a slwe of “islamic centers” in the general area..all peopled by peaceful folks...im sure....
this has to be a lawyers field day In Philadelphia
a total of three trains were allegedly hit by Projectiles

wherein ive posted the map of the locations of the points of impact.
bttt
not particularly quick off the line are they...
Id guess that the acceleration between 70 and 100 plus miles per hour couldnt be very rapid either, but I could be wrong..basing the presumed scale on automotive performance
I was under the impression that these were electric vehicles
NTSB claims forward looking camera frames were used to calculate speed and time b4 wreck. Also said loco was listing 10 deg to right before video ceased recording.
Loco likely grazed a catenary support pole on the right side of the loco as it was leaving the tracks.
well if there’s video, I would think that there would be some record of the alleged projectile hitting the windshield but ..I could be wrong
