The lady who used to cut my hair also had folks in her shop who did manicures and pedicures .... she told me if anyone is going that route i.e. using a shop for manicures/pedicures, have your own ‘utensils’ ... her regular customers had plastic food saver tubs labeled with their names & kept their supplies right at the shop. If the shops don’t properly clean out the soaking tubs, you evidently can get the fungus that way, too. I find it’s cheaper and healthier to “do your own”.
I had to deal with fungus but having done (it’s been gone for years) so I still go in and get my nails done once every two weeks. But, and heres the key, I don’t go to any salon that used power tools. No drills. Most if not all of the Vietnamese salons do. I did once and that’s probably where I got the fungus. And when the woman who does my nails (I’ve known her for 25 years) was pregnant, I lectured her about the chemicals. She just laughed at me. The kids are teenagers now and seem okay.
