WASHINGTON Californias two Democratic senators helped block President Obamas big trade initiative Tuesday, dealing a stunning blow to their own party leader and his rare alliance with the new Senate Republican majority.
Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer voted with all but one Democrat to halt consideration of trade promotion authority, a fast-track process that would restrict Congress to an up-or-down vote without amendment on new trade agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership with Asia. It would be the biggest trade pact ever, covering 40 percent of the global economy.
The 52-45 vote in favor of halting the Democrats filibuster against the fast-track legislation fell far short of the 60 votes needed.
In a scathing speech on the Senate floor, Boxer said she had been suckered into supporting previous fast-track authority. It was an indication of how much Democrats have soured on trade deals since then-President Bill Clinton engineered the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, with Mexico and Canada and brought China into the World Trade Organization during the 1990s.

for your consideration.. Sanity rules? .. for a moment anyway.
As a United States Senator i would be beyond mortified to say this but Buttser has a track record of uttering incredible stupidities and embarrassingly stupid remarks going back to her tenure in the House.
Whatever the reason, these two blind hogs have found corn for once.
It's a miracle.
You know, do me a favor, could you say Senator Suckered?
I’ve worked so hard to get that title, so I’d appreciate it yes, thank you.
Ted Cruz voted for it. I’m disappointed but not surprised.
Those two old Harpies did something right it seems, however there is probably money involved in their decision.
Just political kabuki theatre. Give them a week and they’ll pass fast track with no less than 5 million immigrants and paid abortions.
This is all about preserving the facade of opposing political parties.
The bill must have neglected the business interests of the Feinstein and Boxer families. In the past they made out quite well with all the special amendments, earmarks, and special exceptions, grants, and favors when it came to trade deals.
I’m not believing this; my two Senatri against bo.
OK I’ll read the fine print.
In spite of the initial impression, I am probably still screwed.
Who would believe that common ground found between liberals and real conservatives would actually stop an evil cabal of wine-and cheese liberals and chamber of commerce, country club RINO’s. I believe that the common ground might have been that both actually have the best interests of the people of the United States in mind (albeit that they have different ideas on how to achieve this).
There may be some small glimmer of hope for the country after all.
It happens twice a day.
In before anyone recounts Bela Pelosi’s comments!!
Someone please explain to me why we would give another weapon to a President who has sworn to destroy our industry and our place as leader of the world economy. If he wants to destroy capitalism what better weapon to use than trade agreements?
Jerry Brown is claiming its racist!
This is all about preserving the facade of opposing political parties.
This is a twist on the classic Clintonian triangulation.
When they come together it will be lauded as Congress and the president working to 'get something done' and Obama will be singled out for his diplomacy in bringing his own party around to his way of thinking. Everybody wins!
A bald, vomitous, evil PR stunt by these despicable cretins.
Damn shame we have to rely on liberal democrats to do what is right on this garbage bill.
I want to see a list of the republican FREE TRAITORS!
I agree. Boxer and Feinstein voting in a manner that is favorable to our Nation? No way. Something else is up here.
