Agreed. But Hersh raises very important matters, which need to be thoroughly vetted by reporters with greater reliability than old Sy.

Believe it or not, I read the original Hersh article in the London mag — in spite of the fact that doing so would seem to contravene a common FR practice whereby we seldom read actual sources. And I gotta say that lot of Hersh’s account rings true.

For example, did a few ISI big-wigs know in advance about the raid and could they have facilitated it by some of the actions described by Hersh?

That scenario seems a lot more likely to me than the Obama version, which says the Paks were kept completely in the dark.

I’m not gonna maintain, however, that Hersh is 100% credible. The latter part of the article betrays a rabid anti-CIA and rabid “anti-torture” agenda, whose claims are just a little too pat for me to accept. So let’s hope researchers who are more objective will eventually be able to tell us the whole truth.

I did. But I don’t know the reasons they weren’t forthcoming on everything. Do I believe the administration was truthful? No.

But, again, they may have found it necessary to protect the Pakistani generals. My guess is they would have soon been targets for assassination if the terrorists knew they worked with the USA to kill bin laden.

The heavy loss shows that clandestine tactics carry huge risks despite the huge success of the SEAL mission that killed Osama bin Laden more than three months ago. Most of the SEALs who died Saturday were from the same unit that killed bin Laden, although none of the men took part in that mission.

I'd have to agree. Listening this morning to former CIA Deputy Director Mike Morell on CBS News and Katie Pavlich on Fox News, they both agreed that the anonymous source quoted by Hersh was not credible and, though filtered due to national security, the Obama administration was more right than wrong in their description of events.

Though indeed Hersh is correct that the mainstream media is in general too afraid to challenge Obama and his solution "would be to shut down news networks like NBC and ABC and fire 90 per cent of mainstream editors and replace them with ‘real’ journalists who are not afraid to speak truth to power," his story reminds one of the "9/11 Truthers" who question every aspect of the horrible event.
