he pool is still there. It's shrouded by palm fronds and heavy gates, but it's there. Stand on Pierce Street, beyond the walls of the Fort Harrison Hotel, and you can hear families splashing, even smell the chlorine.
Close your eyes and picture this pool a half-century ago. Picture the Rolling Stones, then a scrum of scrawny Brits in lounge chairs...
Depending on the legend you believe, it was here, 50 years ago while in town for a concert on May 6, 1965, that Keith Richards and Mick Jagger wrote (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. It's the Rolling Stones' signature song and one of the most enduring rock singles ever recorded.
Richards supposedly composed that one-of-a-kind riff while half asleep in his sixth-floor bed, and Jagger banged out those eyebrow-arching lyrics in 10 minutes by this very pool.

It's not some grand treatise on man's place in the universe and it's not designed to cause people to act in ways they otherwise would not.
It not designed to educate or motivate.
It simply captures feeling and expresses it a way that can be conveyed to others.
Just like a painting.
If one paints Mohammed, does that mean he either worships or ridicules Mohammed?
“You seem to perpetuate the old stereotype that conservatives are out of touch fuddy-duddies who listen to Anita Bryant records and insist on Elvis being filmed from the waist up.”
Can I have access to your time machine?
It is quite droll. The Rolling Stones are the epitome of the old fuddy-duddy band.
Let’s examine your premise.
One who dislikes Jay-Z. Must be a FD.
Dislikes Lady Gaga? FD.
Dislikes One Direction, Kanye, The Bieb, Arianna, Iggy?
FD five times over.
FD
It follows that one not ought insult the Prophet or else bear the mark of close minded fuddy-duddy.
I would not pay money to see a Rolling Stones show today. Even during the 1981 tour, they were getting long in the tooth. But a time machine to 1972 or 1975 would have yielded a fine concert by a top rock and roll band.
Clearwater=Scientology.
BTW, freedom of speech is great. But that freedom doesn't help inform our choices about what to listen to.
I remember a long time ago John Lennon said the Stones would be around playing for the next 100 years. He may have been right lol
...
Maybe he meant they would look a 100 years old.
If it were not for that freedom you would not have access to the Mahler symphonies, Beatles, and innumerable composers/artists before and after.
Inevitably people will choose the art they like and very, very few ascribe any meaning to any of it.
Personally I like the three "B"s the best
Beethoven, Brahms and Black Sabbath.
I like a lot of drama in my music, with minor keys.
“If Bobby Goldsboro hadnt shown Richards the open tunings . . .”
Would never have guessed that in a million years - in fact, when I was listening to pop radio in my car in the ‘60’s, there probably wasn’t anything that moved my finger to change the channel quicker than the opening notes of “Honey”.
And now I find out that Goldboro opened for the Stones on their first US tour! I know groups hate to be shown up by their opening acts, but Bobby Goldboro / Rolling Stones? I’m still trying to figure that one out.
Too old.
Here’s the best capture of the Stones’ character in their time:

Saw them in early seventies somewhere in Germany. Every note was perfection. Germans sat quietly and applauded politely at the end of a song.
8 hours old?

“Every note was perfection...”
No hero worship here.
What you need is a long walk with your dog and then an adult beverage or two as the sun sets.. Maybe toss a steak on the grill.
Loosen up!
I have only 24/7, so I need to make informed choices about what gets my attention. That means passing on something I may like: alchohol, nicotine, sex, cocaine, excessive speed, unexamined life, pop culture, money, media, and music. Things like this can ruin my day. It has to do with keeping an edge, keeping a sharp mind. It seems that there are too many things that weaken and keep me from excellence. Things that weaken remind me that I struggle against death, every day, no matter how important those riffs are. And I have completely different views about satisfaction. There are views about human satisfaction weaken. Moderation is a nice principle, but having power is even better.
Your Dad knew talent when he heard it. Mick is a great, bluesy rock singer and front man.
Yet you gave enough of one to post a comment about it.
I know . . . was kinda' hopin' that this was newsworthy . . . couldn't find my "Giffa$hitcard" to get it punched.
"How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"
So what comes first, feast your mind and soul and then relax your body? Drink first and then think? Think and then drink?
Like my grandfather always said: "Sages are like farts, they're not worth paying attention to unless you're trapped in an elevator with one. Then you hold your nose and pray for the door to open..."
RIP Grandpa!

And along similar lines, there were probably a lot of rock vs. country aficionados unaware back then that Glen Campbell was playing guitar for the Beach Boys and others as well.
Put me in the group that believes that roughly 1963-75 was a time for music not equaled by any I know of before or since.
For awhile every year a significant new style of music took over from the last. Folk, folk rock, British, psychedelic, etc.
One day the Kingston Trio is the most widely known musical group in the world, next year comes Bob Dylan, next year comes the Beatles, etc.
A significant aspect of the British Invasion was they were handing back our own Blues, which inspired many British individuals and groups.
The Stones and Beatles played Chuck Berry, for example.
It’s Sunday afternoon. A perfect day to relax your body and rest up for the week ahead.
