Democrats would love to get in on that especially Bill
“Which is the crazier - muslim terrorists or American liberals?”
My vote would have to go to the liberals on that one, because the Muslims at least _think_ that they have God on their side, and, most of the terrorists don’t have the equivalent of a 1970’s fourth grade education. Oh the other hand, the parents of the liberals spent thousands and thousands of dollars putting them through college (therefore, giving them the equivalent of a 9th grade 1970’s education).
The one would act if he had any paternal instinct and love of Country.
We see these reports every day, we know what's happening and yet our leaders do nothing! Why is congress submitting to Obama??? Congress and the White House is full of people who would watch the holocaust and do nothing.
I don't recognize my country. We need leadership that will unshackle the power of the U.S. military and go over there kick these people's ass once and for all!
C’mon now... only old white males have been the ones to perpetuate slavery.. follow the narrative, please. /sarc (if needed)
Reality disconnect on your part does not in any way negate reality.
What happened to some of the passengers on those pirated ships? (Hint: I alluded to the answer in my post.)
I suggest you pull back from your ill considered little denial, until you do your homework on that question.
I suspect I know a good deal more about the Barbary Wars than you do.
I am quite right in that the American goal, which succeeded, was to whack the pirates upside the head hard enough to convince them it would be a good idea to leave American ships and citizens strictly alone.
Neither Jefferson nor Madison ever had the slightest intention of invading, conquering and imposing our value systems on the Barbary states.
Would have been a tad hypocritical had they done so, insofar as we ourselves practiced slavery, including sex slavery, at the time. Both of the presidents mentioned were large slaveowners, and Jefferson has been accused, somewhat credibly, of sexually abusing at least one of them.
Pretty evasive.
What was done with the some of passengers on pirated ships again?
I couldn’t find the answer to my very specific question in the drivel you just tried to throw out for an answer.
Female passengers on captured American ships who could not be ransomed were, as with any other female slaves, generally made concubines if pretty enough. If not, household or field workers. Just as ISIS does and as Islam always did with captives until they were forced to (pretend to) give it up by the West.
I fail to see where you think I ever claimed otherwise.
But we didn’t attack the pirate states because they enslaved women, we attacked them because they captured and enslaved Americans, some small percentage of which were women. We simply had nothing to say about their enslavement of black women from across the Sahara or of French or Greek women captured and enslaved.
When we had whacked them hard enough to convince them to leave American ships alone, we went away, leaving their practice of slavery and sex slavery in place. Not our business.
Would you care to comment on whether America of the time did not also practice slavery, including sex slavery? What moral basis did we have for objecting to the Berbers doing the same?
If you spend 5 minutes on Huffingtonpost it will verify what you just said.
The excuse is always:
All religions are bad.
Christians have also done bad things in the past.
They are doing this because of the crusades or some other past even.
They they go one to bash conservatives, Christians, etc.
Liberalism really is a mental disorder.
Yes, but how much did that U. N. official bid?
That’s what I’d like to know.
Or is it out of line to think he might actually want to buy her after raping her?
Ah yes, the U. N., just what the world needs for a moral compass.
I fail to see where I ever, at any point said we went over there to end the Arab slave trade as a whole.
My point was and is that we went over there to stop the capture and enslavement of free westerners in general, and Americans in particular. Which is of course what ISIS is now in the avowed process of implementing.
If you wish to debate me you must do so on the basis of my actual point. Not some strawman about ending the internal slave trade in Africa. That is not what I alluded to.
How many westerners has ISIS kidnapped and enslaved? Not that I’m sure they wouldn’t like to. Especially the white womens. So far their enslavement, as opposed to hostage-taking, has been of other middle easterners. Mostly, though not exclusively, Christian and Yezidis.
You’ll have to provide some kind of evidence that our attacks on the Barbary states had anything at all to do with “the capture and enslavement of free westerners in general.” I’m willing to be convinced if you have such evidence, I’ve just never seen any.
Jefferson tried to pull together a coalition of small states to fight the pirates. The big naval powers, like England and France, either paid the pirates off or intimidated them. In either case, the big powers benefited by the pirate’s depredations on the small powers. Reduced competition, ya know.
His attempt failed, but I have never seen anywhere a claim that we fought the pirates to make them stop messing with westerners in general. We fought them to make them stop messing with Americans. Which they did.
America kicked the crap out of the pirates with just a few ships. The Brits, with an order of magnitude or two more powerful navy, didn’t bother to do so for several centuries.
The piracy didn’t really stop, however, till France started conquering Algeria about 30 year later.
BTW, most of the captains and a lot of the crews of the pirate ships were Europeans. IOW, the story of the Barbary pirates is a lot more complicated than it looks like at first.
